Official malfunction

Anyone who follows college basketball has probably heard about the end-of-game happenings during Monday's Rutgers-Tennessee women's game.

It got me too thinking ... with as many times as I've seen poorly officiated games, I can't recall a single instance where I felt a team was cheated at the end of a game. I'm sure some of you out there have a few gripes though and I'd like to hear them.

One of my favorite stories involves the Uniontown boys basketball being "cheated" of a WPIAL championship due to a scoring error. This happened in the early 1980s and the person keeping the official book has not been to Uniontown since. (Side note, he was supposed to ride with me to a Peters Township at Uniontown game in 2000 or 2001 and opted out at the last minute).

I've watched clips of this on youtube probably 8 or 9 times and it makes me cringe every time. What a darn shame that this happened. There is no excuse or justification, the bottom line is Rutger was cheated out of a win. That game needs be either be given to Rutgers or removed from both teams' records.
