WPIAL football schedules released

The WPIAL released its schedule grid for the 2012 football season.

Check out the first four games for Canon-McMillan, which was cross-scheduled with Pittsburgh Central Catholic. Also of note, there will be no Washington-McGuffey non-section game.

And the Tri-County South teams each received an open date, with Avella having an open date in Week 1 and Beth-Center in Week 9. TCS is the lone WPIAL conference with open dates. It begs the question, who are the schools supposed to schedule?

The City seems to always have open dates available, and Frazier and Geibel are close enough to D5 to schedule games. I'd guess that Avella and the Greene County schools could look at WV or Ohio schools. If I'm Beth Center I'm looking for a game that would give the team a push. The best option could be Wheeling Central(who always struggles to find a game) or another top flight 1A or 2A school in the panhandle. Eastern Ohio schools for the most part have open schedules so I'd def look there.

It's a good idea, but finding an open date in Week 9 sounds tricky.

Might be a high school bye week.

Got word that the TCS teams will play Vincentian Academy on their open dates.

Vincentian is starting a football program.

I think it would have made more sense to keep Cal in the TCS. That way those teams would not have needed a non-section game and it would have given BC a team they would have to at least get up for. The new look Black Hills could compete better with teams from other conferences or even classifications. Just a thought.

Anybody else hear that Eddie D. is going to be the new HC at McGuffey?

How does WPIAL justify giving Canon Mac a cross over game with PCC and give USC a cross over game with Butler. Do they even look at the matchups?
