Ringgold football

First-year Ringgold High School football coach Lloyd Price was handed a one-game suspension by the school district for last week's game at Albert Gallatin.

The Rams picked up their first victory of the 2009 season, 41-38, thanks to a couple defensive touchdowns. Matt Humbert, an assistant coach who played football at Cal U, served as head coach for Ringgold.

According to one report, there will be an executive session at Wednesday's school board meeting to determine the status of the 26-year-old Price, who is Ringgold's athletic director, and that the football team would attend on his behalf.

Price had no comment and the Observer-Reporter was unable to confirm such action would be taken at the school board meeting.

A previous post by Ringgold Legend on the Varsity Letters stated "Lloyd Price was suspended for fighting for two of his players against the school boards will. I will not say what the kids did, but he represented them or took the stand or something for the kids and Ringgold's Administration was not happy about it."

Price became Ringgold's seventh head football coach in 11 years when he replaced Jeff Petrucci.

The main reason for Ringgold's football program to be in a constant state of rebuilding in recent years is the school board itself. How can you be so excited to hire a guy like this and now have a few who want to get rid of him so quickly? I don't know exactly what happened, but if you fire him 3 weeks in to the season because he hurt some board member's feeleings by trying to help one of his kids - you will all look foolish - AGAIN. If there are a few so determined to get rid of him without considering the damage that they are doing...at least wait until the season is over.

Absolutely bizarre... How does this happen?

Coach Price has brought our football pretty far from where Petrucci left it. Price not only created a weight and conditioning program over the summer but he also was able to get the biggest turn out we ever had. He also entered the team into several 7 on 7 tourneys. PRice has done nothing but give everything he has to this football program. No matter what we need we always know we can go to him. He has created a sense of team unity, which no coach has ever been able to acomplish in Ringgold's histroy. Everyone needs to get off Coach Price's back and let him do his job.

Lloyd Price is a class act both as a coach and a member of society. Why can't the board just leave the guy alone and let him do his job? The reason the program is in the rebuilding stage is because of the board! They have managed to run everyone off since 2000 and have not allowed a coach to establish a good, solid program. Coach Price is giving it his all, and it is sad that the board is trying to stand in his way. Don't worry, he will go on to bigger and better things because of the kind of person that he is!

I remember watching Lloyd Price coach girls basketball at California High School. While he could go "over the edge" on occasions you could tell he really cared about the program and direction he wanted it to go. I ran into him at a tournament one day and told him how I felt he had improved the girls program and how much I enjoyed watching him coach with enthusiasim. He said that he wished the people at Cal felt that way because they had just opened his position. It's a shame our schools want to keep the coaches around for a long time if they don't make waves. Don't let it matter they don't really improve the program or in some cases cause it to take a step back. Good luck to Lloyd Price and all the other truely caring and dedicated coaches out there.

Am I missing something here? I understand based on an article by Brian Herman in Monday's Valley Indepedent that Lloyd Price was suspended for insubordination (most likely attending a court hearing for a couple of his players that was against district policy). Is that the only thing he did to have this much heat on him from the board and Superintendent? Maybe I dont realize the severity of the insubordination but from talk within the Ringgold community, Coach Price is on thin ice with his job security and it doesnt make any sense to me if its just over the attending of a court hearing...Are there other issues in play? If not, one would think that the one-game suspension is his punishment and then he moves on to coach his team....

He is off the hook from what I heard today. There was a school board meeting last night and they must have voted in favor of Price. The Ringgold School Board is a joke. If they would have pushed Price away that would be one of the biggest mistakes of all time. He is going to take Ringgold football to the next level in the next 5 years or so.

Legend - was his attending the court hearing his only screw-up or are there other issues out there that the board has with him?

for full disclosure - I think hes doing a good job as well...

I know someone that saw Ringgold's practice today and for the first 90 minutes, Humbert ran the whole thing with Price basically observing from the sidelines..Thats doesnt sound like someone who's off the hook...

I believe he will be suspended 1 more game. Thank the good lord that the Rams are playing Southmoreland. I do not think that Lloyd did anything more than sticking up for his players. The community better appreciate him more after this ordeal because this just shows he does not care about getting a $10,000^ check like some of the previous Ringgold coaches. He cares about the players. The kids that he fought for were not even going to be key contributors so it just shows that he is a stand up guy.

It depends on how you define key contributor..Both of these boys would be seeing playing time..One of the boys was contending for a starting sport and the other one would have been getting playing time as a key reserve with the potential to get alot of playing time...The one player is just a freshman and with Ringgold having a freshman team, to move him up to sit the bench doesnt make sense - if he would have been siting the bench on Friday's - he would have been served to play freshman and that wasnt happening.

Was he "standing up" for his guys or "covering up" for them? I have heard some serious implications on this matter and I hope it isn't true because Lloyd is a great guy.

Cementhead - that would make sense as I cannot fathom being suspended and the circus atmosphere at the school bd meeting over just attending a hearing (Solicitor hinted at some form of litigation in the newspaper)....

You cant just keep us hanging - what have you heard?

If anyone is going to have what they heard published, they must not only put their name to the post, they must e-mail or contact me personally so I can verify their identity.

Not a fan of price, and I'm a Ringgold athlete. But that's all I'll say.
