Hooks at Aliquippa

Zach Hooks started the 2009-10 school year at Charleroi High School armed with a full scholarship offer from the University of Pittsburgh football team. The 6-7, 290 junior has the size and footwork of a major Division I offensive lineman.

Hooks struggled through the Cougars' football season despite Charleroi coming this close to making the WPIAL Class AA playoffs from the Interstate Conference, which produced WPIAL champion and PIAA runner-up Greensburg Central Catholic. The possible Division I lineman failed to make his all-conference team.

A starting center as a sophomore on Charleroi's basketball team, Hooks never appeared in a game for the Cougars and reports surfaced that he transfered to Aliquippa. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/valleyindependent/s_661442.html

On Jan. 12, Scout.com did a feature story on Hooks, who was participating in the U.S. Army Scouting Combine in San Antonio, Texas and refers to him as "Charleroi (Pa.) junior offensive tackle/defensive tackle."

Judging from today's Post-Gazette, it's safe to say the Valley Independent's story on the Aliquippa transfer was correct.Linkhttp://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10020/1029548-364.stm

Did his parents move to this school district? Did the WPIAL approve him to play?

Hooks played last nght for the Quips per this morning's post-gazette.......

From the article:

"He transferred last week when he and his mother moved into the Aliquippa district. Tim O'Malley, executive director of the WPIAL, said Aliquippa officials told him the Hooks family bought a house in Aliquippa.

"According to the PIAA by-laws, you are presumed eligible if you move, and live with one or both of your natural parents in that district," O'Malley said. "He's eligible immediately unless someone makes a case that the move was done for athletic purposes. So far, no one has made that case."

He is already playing basketball at Aliquippa. Heard he got himself into some trouble in Charleroi and figured he would just run away from it.

This kid obviously has the size but the reason he was not successful at Charleroi and the reason he will not be successful at aliquippa or at the next level is because of his work ethic, plain and simple. Just because this kid changes uniforms doesnt mean the result will change. And that goes for stepoli also. Different color uniforms, same bad attitude.

Saw a Stepoli's name in the box scores for their win against South Fayette last night. Is that the kid you guys are talking about?

No, the one transferring this year is Terrance Stepoli, he is a junior. His younger brother Josh is still playing in Monessen and is a sophmore. Rumor has it he is going to GCC next year.

He won't play at GCC, especially football. he is way too undisciplined.

He'll be fine at GCC. He won't be in familiar surroundings and won't be comfortable so he will stay staight there.

All these big DI schools look for is future potential. They don't care if the kid is lazy, stupid or just not really a good "high school" player. They don't care about who made all conference or all state or whatever. Hooks is 6'7" and almost 300lbs. DI football looks at his footwork and his size and if he plays 100 plays lazy on film and 1 play awesome DI coaches say "see he has potential" its a shame but thats what happens. and good undersized high school players go DII or DIII.

Bonjorni has left Bkkt and has enrolled at West Alleghney. His mother works with Ms Palko who's husband is the head football coach at West Alleghney. He left Bkkt the day after the new football conferences were made, and many say Bkkt will not win a game in that conference

What is BKKT?

For all the chances b-town coaches gave bongiorni, for starting as a freshman, he packs up and leaves. What respect did he leave? Many have watch his father yell at him cause he couldn't play with perfection. May dad should leave. Why did he lie to all the students and coaches that it was academic and personal reasons. You parents, is what you taught your son? Living with the Uncle and Aunt is cheating. Are they paying tuition?
