In celebration of Championship Sunday, it's time to publish the weekly update of the Observer-Reporter's WPIAL boys and girls basketball rankings. There was considerable movement in the boys rankings, though three of the four No. 1 teams (Peters Township, Chartiers Valley and Beaver Falls) remained in place.

Did Clairton beat Serra?

Jordan Hall once again gets no respect leading the Jayhawks with a 12-3 record.

Yes, Clairton beat Serra.

It took the bears a little while to get started this season...they are going to be a threat in the playoffs.

im not sure clairton alum, but do alot of players from clairtons basketball team come from the football team. if so, then thats easily the reason for the slow start, since they probably practiced once before their first game

I thought Jordan Hall quit the team.

oh yeah...

honestly, im fairly certain at least 90% of our team were all on the football team. We didnt even play a game this season until other teams already had 6 or 7 under their belts. Clairton's a small school...

I heard Clairton migh be shut down? Any truth to that.

IS CLAIRTON GOING TO ATLEAST BE A THREAT THIS YEAR ON THE BASKETBALL COURT BECAUSE I HEARD THEY STARTED THE SEASON WITH A 2-3 RECORD

#1 Clairton is not shutting down. That rumor has been out there since i was in elementary school school there 21 years ago. Financially speaking they are as sound as ever.

#2 Clairton did start the season 2-3, however did so coming off of a state playoff run in football that saw them make it to hershey. At one point, Clairton had a 0-0 record while Serra had a 7-0 record. Clairton didnt even get practice time in on the court until after most teams played at least 5 games...Clairton has now won their last 4 including a 1 pt victory over previous #1 and unbeaten Serra. They may not win the WPIAL title in basketball, but they'll give it a real good shot...

Did some kid from CV really drop 52 points last night???

still dont think clairton is as good as most people think....actually i think they just got lucky against serra, and the next meeting between the two a will be an entire different story....count on it...

from the looks of that last post anon it would appear to me that you are either a current Serra player or possibly a one time player/student/fan...

Thats okay...you may be right. Anything is possible. Serra has a very nice team. Clairton didnt dominate them by any stretch of the imagination. The next time those two teams meet up it should be a real good game, wouldnt at all be surprised if Serra won it. Could come down to those two teams for the title...

On a bright note for the bears, however, they are beginning to hit their stride as the playoffs approach which could play out nicely for them...we'll see.

Good luck to Serra as well.

These message boards are hilarious. I love how people try to analyze if someone is a parent, player, or former player.

Does it really make a difference?? haha. Give me a break.

Anonymous said...

doesnt really make a difference. not sure what is so funny or hilarious about it though.

Clairton Alum,

It's a black fly in your Chardonnay...

Figures you are the one to call someone out for talking up their school. Meh, oh well.
I don't get to hear or read much about "A" ball, what's Clairton's and Serra's size like this year?

I guess hypocritical is the better term, but i love listening to this song...

Kovak,

Can you delete the post above me. Its clearly a waste of everyones time reading. You need to start cleaning these boards up. Its hard to have an intelligent debate which is usually the point of a msg board.

Thanks.

This board has been cleaned up and I see no point in deleting the above post by Varsity Letters veteran VCTMbrian.

He's one of the best on the board and entitled to attempts at humor.

Just to be clear on one thing, opinions will not be deleted. Outrageous, erroneous posts will be.

Do I make veteran status?

There are NOTHING wrong with Brian's posts. He and I have gone back and forth playfully since the beginning of football season last year. If you want serious blogging go to foxnews.com or cnn.com. For goodness sakes its highschool sports...its fun...everything doesnt always have to be serious.

Clairton Alum,

Your posts this past football season were terrible. I wish I could block your comments so I didnt have to read all the stupid comments you make.
