Pitt football media day takes place Monday, Aug. 4. Camps at West Virginia and Penn State are also close to starting.

As a college football junkie, I want to honor the baddest mutha to ever put on a NCAA uniform.

For the younger folk, the man pictured is Hugh Green. He played at Pitt from 1977-80. As a defensive end, Green made 441 tackles and had 53 sacks. Green finished second in the 1980 Heisman Trophy balloting – he should have won – and collegefootballnews.com lists Green as the fifth best player in history.

Brian here are some predictions...

1. Mike Hull will not commit to Penn State or should I say State Penn. The recent legal problems and the exit of Joe Paterno mean that Hull will likely pick from the following: Ohio State, Pitt, and Southern Cal.

2. USC national title

3. Heisman will go to Chase Daniels of Missouri.

4. Local teams in bowl games: WVU and Pitt

5. State Penn will miss out on the bowl season and will get stomped in their opener by the beavers of oregon state.

My preseason Top 10

1. USC
2. Oklahoma
3. Georgia
4. LSU
5. Ohio State
6. West Virginia
7. Florida
8. Auburn
9. Clemson
10. Texas Tech

Pitt can win eight to 10 games. The same for Penn State.

The Panthers have several questions along the OL and Bill Stull must play well at QB. Also, the defense must find ways to play more considently. Still, I like Pitt's chances to finish in the top four in the Big East.

Penn State, along with South Florida, Clemson, Texas Tech and Tennessee, are among the teams that can play in the BCS if things play out the right way.

The Heisman goes to ... Chris Wells, Ohio State.

Oh, and Notre Dame will win a few more games.
