McGuffey to hire Dalton

According to multiple sources, the McGuffey School Board is expected to hire Ed Dalton as its athletic director at tonight's meeting. Dalton is also expected to fill the open varsity football coaching position.

Dalton was hired as Trinity's athletic director and football coach before the start of the 1999-2000 school year. He was removed as the school district's athletic director two years ago, but remained as football coach following a move to the classroom. Dalton had his football position opened twice, only to have the school board rescind its decision on both occasions.

Dalton will be McGuffey's first full-time athletic director since Mike Malesic retired at the end of last year. Tom Bedillion was a part-time athletic director.

Derek Bochna had been the Highlanders' football coach. His position was opened two months ago.

TRINITY, without a doubt, is losing a good coach, good teacher, but most importantly a great man. What he was to the students and has done for the students in the Trinity District is beyond reproach. It's a shame that people like Scott Day, Colleen Interval, and Sandra Clutter, members of the Trinity School board, have made living and working at something Mr. Dalton loves so much (coaching in the Trinity district) an almost impossibility. Their actions have hurt not only the program but also the students involved in them. Ed was a friend to ALL students and worked tirelessly to help any who needed it. I am proud to have worked with Ed the last 12 years and wish him all the best in his new and hopefully supportive position. Also, I hope people come out to vote and correct mistakes that in my opinion have been made. There is no place for vendettas within a body chosen to make decisions that ultimately effect the most precious thing, our children!

Elementary principal Tom Bedillion has been the Athletic Director. Notified administration and the board that he was not interested in continuing in both roles and resigned the AD position.

The issue at Trinity has little to do with Dalton's ability as a coach or AD. There are ilikely issues that were never made public that would explain why he is wanted out. Some people have taken a lot of heat for something that had to be done. The truth will likely never be made public. Dalton will continue to be a coach and AD and Trinity can start over. hopefully all parties learn from their mistakes.

What does this do to the Trinity Football Head coaching position? I hear the AD isnt very happy there either? Wonder who would want to go and work there?

The list of applications for both positions will be long and qualified. Not suprised the AD wants out, the Dalton supporters have made life miserable for him.
New football coach, new AD, and hopefully fresh start for all.

It seems many are losing sight of who is really being affected the most. Some board members, administrators and others are not setting a good example of professionalism to the students. When Dalton was fired/hired over and over without must justification, what does that teach the students? When a person they love and respected was fired, the board needed to provided those kids with a reason. I don't care who was right or wrong but the students desered to know why. I don't care who was right or wrong but it is a shame that this is the example that the district is setting for their kids.

Early canidate for Trinity positions: Guy Montecalvo

Guy Montecalvo? Not much of a fresh start to hire someone so close to retiring. Get someone 30 or 40ish, not 60ish. Seriously, how many more years do you think Montecalvo would coach?

Montecalvo didn't do much for Canon Mac football. Just Sayin'

Now McGuffey can start using ineligible players

What did Montecalvo do for Canon-Mac you ask?? Well, some of the best and most exciting years in the history of the program and the shaping of young men's lives. Don't know if he's interested if he's close to retiring, but his knowledge and enthusiasm is missed here in Canonsburg.

Pallante did way more at CM than Montecalvo.
