Green is Mr. PA Football

Clairton's Deismon Green won the first Mr. PA Football small school award as selected by fans, and apparently some media and coaches. Hopewell's Rushel Shell, recently named the country's No. 11 recruit for 2012 by MaxPreps/CBS Sports, won the big school award.

Washington's Julien Anderson and South Fayette's Christian Brumbaugh were two of five finalists for the small school award.

Green, a Texas Tech recruit, led Clairton to a wild comeback in the PIAA Class A championship game - the second consecutive state title for the Bears. As a quarterback, Green accounted for 43 touchdowns and was equally effective at defensive end, where he had 14 sacks. (The guess here is he had to have more than 14 sacks.)

Shell, who has offers from most major colleges, has rushed for 6,766 yards and should break the WPIAL all-time rushing mark established by Fort Cherry's Mike Vernillo in 1999. Follow me on Twitter. http://twitter.com/#

Good for Desimone. I for one am glad he graduated. Won't have to see him anymore in the orange and black. I hope he does well in Texas. I wish he would've stayed closer to home. Texas is a long was away and Pitt would've been a better fit for him I think.

No way is Pitt a better fit. The farther he gets from his Clairton environment, the better for him. Pitt would be the same culture as he lived in all his life with too many bad influences close at hand.
Good luck in Texas.

All I'm saying is that Pitt is closer to home. Texas is too far for an 18 yr old kid to go. I'm saying I hope he doesn't get home sick and be back in Clairton within a month.

It was reported that his mother will be moving to Texas with him and there is an aunt or other relative that lives there, too. So, he really should not suffer too much from being homesick like alot of other kids do when they go away to college. This is a great situation for him other than any 'anti-yankee' bias that he might find from the Texas rednecks.

I believe Texas Tech is a great move.

He'll never see the field...

I am very surprised he won that award...I congratulated him for being a finalist but never thought he would win. If you know Desimon, you know that he is a really good kid. Kids from Clairton have a negative stigma...Desimon is different...he really is. A lot of these Clairton kids over the last couple of years have been very different...Deontae Howard, Kevin Weatherspoon, Josh Page, Marquis Norris, Desimon...I am very happy for him.

As for him "never seeing the field" at Texas Tech...thats kind of funny. If he is developed the right way by the TT coaching staff the kid is going to be a star. Desimon has an abundance of raw talent and size. Also, add in two of his friends from Mckeesport going there as well...along with his mom...and he is going to be just fine. He needed to get away from this area, I'm glad he is going down there.

Congrats Desi...
