Over, under or even

With the first day of football camps under way, what better time to take a quick look back at 2008 and a look ahead to the start of the 2009 regular season. At the Varsity Letters, that means taking a guess on the fortunes of local teams.

For each team, there's the 2008 record, whether it will win more, less or the same and a quick comment on the team.

Team 2008 2009 Comment
Avella 0-9, Even, Vs. Geibel in opener
Bentworth 3-7, Over, Team has a Rood attitude
Beth-Center 8-2, Even, Always tough
Burgettstown 4-6, Over, Playoff-caliber
California 4-6, Over, Expect a strong offense
Canon-McMillan 6-4, Over, Hinges on offensive line
Carmichaels 5-5, Under, Hit hard by graduation
Charleroi 4-5, Over, Could be surprise
Chartiers-Houston 6-4, Under, Hit hard by graduation
Fort Cherry 8-2, Under, Still playoff-caliber
Jefferson-Morgan 5-4, Over, Should return to playoffs
Mapletown 1-8, Over, 4-year starter at QB
McGuffey 6-4, Even, Nice group of RB
Monessen 7-4, Over, Expecting a playoff run
Peters Township 2-7, Over, Will be better on O
Ringgold 6-4, Under, One returning starter
South Fayette 3-6, Over, Took lumps last year
Trinity 5-5, Over, Hillers may take to air
Washington 1-8, Over, Must be stronger up front

West Greene 0-9, Over, Also plays Geibel

I think Peters Township is this year's Bethel Park. I could see them surprising a ton of people and making it to Heinz!

Anyone out there know who is going to be the quarterback at Trinity and Wash High? I haven't seen much of either team's depth chart.

I hope the Peters Township comment was a joke because I would hate to think people are THAT crazy...

Thats great stuff, PT to Heinz!!! How about winning more than 1 conference game and then start shooting for the stars. Erenberg the savior, equally hillarious. The kid is a great kid and a nice player, but who exactly is going to block for him?

Hancock the next Roethlisberger said...

Peters has toughness in the trenches this year. They'll be fine and they will start proving in a couple Friday's from now.

Could they be the first team to ever have the Wpial's leading Passer, Rusher, and Receiver? I think they have a legit shot!

okay I am going to assume that these comments about PT are sarcastic ones. They have to be. No one that even somewhat remotely follows Quad A WPIAL Football would say these things in a serious tone.

erenberg plays for central cath. in pittsburgh you moron

haha and i know someone who is friends with erenberg. hes not even catholic. hahahahaha. but in peters best year, they still would not be able to beat gateway caliber teams

Hey anon...
He just transfered back to PT...you moron. There's an article about it in the PGH Trib today.

Good luck to the Indians this season...but I can't see them at Heinz this season.

Peters has one conference championship 1975, I would set my goal for winning the conference before I talked about Heinz field.
Render, Methany, Montacalvo and Haering have WPIAL titles under their belt. Who is coaching Peters this week?

Anonymous said...

Canon-Mac-----under. Hagan will not play and Hull is hurt again plus Montecalvo has yet to prove he is a AAAA quality coach. He is yet to win a AAAA playoff game.

Hull is hurt? What did he do?

As stated previously, speculating of the health of high school kids is unfair and frowned upon at this site.

To quote Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men...."you can't handle the truth."

Just because the CM coach won't confirm what's true does not make it false. You should ask what his motivation is for lying & being deceitful. What will his excuse be when the truth is revealed in a couple of weeks. He and everyone at CM have known about Hagan since April, it's the worst kepy secret in the district. Wake up Mike be professional and do your job.

Hull is always hurt.

Erenberg is on par with the kid from Hopewell. He will put Peters on the map!

Anonymous said...

Oh just stop it...on par with the kid from hopewell? I certainly hope you dont mean Rushel Shell...

Anonymous said...

Russ Shell couldn't wear Erenbergs jockstrap. Peters would pound Chokewell if they played them.

Hancock will throw for 300 against that weak CM defense.

Worlds Greatest said...

dom broglia is the nastiest lineman around. hancock will not throw for 300 you are absolutely insane. Mike Hull will most likely give ehrenburg the traditonal double leg take down as he did multple times in his high school career. Hagan is fine and will be playing so whoever said that should get there facts straight. cm will destroy peters this year again they killed them last year without hull.

Keep dreaming you CM fool. Peters will physically dominate CM up front and throw all over that weak defense.

Peters in a blowout.

Here is a question for all you PT people (or just the one deranged PT poster). Please give me proof, factual evidence that PT has improved that much since their 2-7 campaign last season. And please stay away from "ehrenburg is awesome" or "we have great speed". Please give some insightful, detailed analysis.

Hey "greatest" keep dreaming. Hagan is anything but fine, he has 2 heart conditions and they only fixed 1, the other is far more serious and is why he can't get a sign off to play. Hull has chronic back problems and Coach Ego is nothing more than a AA Coach. Render, Novak, Methany, Haering all quality AAAA Coaches which is something he never had to contend with at Wash. High and he has never adjusted to. Baldwin is the only definite win this year with a possibilty of PT as the other. That's not speculation ...... it's reality!

Wow, you seem to know all the answers and are a very jilted, jealous/envious sort of character! Interesting you know all about Hagan, maybe you should be a doctor.

I also like how you say coach is a AA coach. How come his former team all of a sudden isn't winning the past couple years? You also show what an idiot you are by naming Render, Hearing and Novak, all good coaches who we beat last year. Nobody in the cm organization is making any outlandish claims about how great a team we have....we know we are playin a very tough schedule.
