What to watch - McGuffey at Greensburg Central Catholic

Tonight, the Varsity Letters heads to Greensburg for the Week 2 Interstate Conference clash between McGuffey and Greensburg Central Catholic. A year ago, the Highlanders beat the Centurions, 27-20, in Week 7.

In order to win this year, McGuffey must continue to dominate defensive the way it did in the opener against Mt. Pleasant. GCC owns a much more potent offense than the Vikings, so it's unlikely McGuffey will only allow five first downs tonight. But allowing anywhere between 14-20 points gives McG a chance to win.

Senior quarterback Matt Czulewicz must manage the game. McGuffey isn't going to throw much unless needed. Czulewicz must help keep turnovers and penalties to a minimum and let the offensive line do the work.

Also, McGuffey's special teams played outstanding in the opener. Field position will be critical.

So will withstanding the first quarter. GCC will be smarting over last year's defeat and looking to extract revenge. Staying close early should help the Highlanders.

Mike,
You know what you should do either this week or next...Since Ringgold beat AG tonight convincingly 34-6 and is off to a 2-0 start for the first time this millenium, and should beat southmoreland next week to become 3-0. Why don't you write an article praising Petrucci like some reporter will end up doing on how he has returned Ringgold to a good program because they will be 3-0 after playing 3 cupcakes...Then in week 4 make the trip to Thomas Jefferson when Petrucci will single handily lose the game for the Rams by being outcoached 100x to 1 by Cherpak...I'm sure Cherpak will make that a statement game after losing their opener and the talk will be Ringgold might have a chance because they are 3-0...but he will send the rams back to Ringgold all black and blue with no horns, but everyone will still love the old washed up Petrucci bc he was a subpar coach at a division 2 school 20 years ago and bc he coached Joe Montana.

"Then in week 4 make the trip to Thomas Jefferson when Petrucci will single handily lose the game for the Rams by being outcoached 100x to 1 by Cherpak..."

If you believe that's the only reason Ringgold will lose to TJ, I want some of what you're smoking.

Cupcakes or not, 3-0 is 3-0. Can't fault a 3-0 start, especially considering that the Rams haven't won more than four games in a few years.
