Games of the Week, Week 4

Last week's slate, full of promise on paper, primarily delivered a bunch of blowouts. Fort Cherry at Bentworth and Woodland Hills at Canon-McMillan proved competition and worth the price of the ticket - possibly even worth braving the torrential rains, like the ones drenching Hiller Field last Friday.

With the fourth weekend, conference games abound. Here's the best of the bunch:

1. (tie) Beth-Center at Jefferson-Morgan (4 stars)
These two neighbors meet annually. It's also a hotly contested game and now that both are in the Tri-County South Conference, a lot more is up for grabs. Beth-Center (2-1, 1-0) is fresh off a blowout and looks ready to contend. Jefferson-Morgan (3-0, 1-0) has found a way to remain competitive despite last year's large senior class. For those in the mood for atmosphere, if you have never attended a game at J-M's Parker Field, check it out.

Monessen is still the team to beat in the conference. This game could determine second place or a possible conference champion.

Serra Catholic at Fort Cherry (4 stars)
Fans of tradition will want to be at Fort Cherry as several alumni will be on hand to watch the dedication of Jim Garry Stadium. It's going to be a special night in the McDonald area.

Also, these are two of the better teams in Class A at this point. A Fort Cherry win legitimizes the Rangers as contenders.

2. Trinity at Elizabeth Forward (3 stars)
At 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference, Trinity can not afford to fall further behind in the Class AAA Big Seven. The Hillers must find their power offense and grind it out against an undefeated Elizabeth Forward.

3. Ringgold at Thomas Jefferson (2 3/4 stars)
This Big Seven game between undefeated Ringgold and powerhouse Thomas Jefferson may provide a glimpse into the remaining five games for the Rams.

TJ is the prohibitive favorite but if Ringgold can makes things competitive ... well, let's wait and see. TJ looks absolutely dominant.

his bro number 19 is a tough kid too. even hes not a starter he still gets a lil playing time now and then. a skinny kid but hes tough. he plays jv but sticks people like a varsity player... now his brother will burgess number 32 is a hardcore physical athelete. he put that dude from avella in the hospital in week 3.. hes full potentual for c-h's defence and offence.. so mike what do you think about these brothers. brian#19 and will#32??

I have not seen C-H play this year and likely will not until they play Clairton. Thus, I cannot comment on the abilities of the Burgess brothers.

will burgess is like the justin baker of chartiers-houston. Three steps too slow, not an ounce of athletic ability, but the heart of a lion. Before we put Burgess in the pros, let's appreciate his strengths (heart) and try not to overrate his athletic abilities (or lack there of).

Mr. Hayden,
Leave Justin Baker alone. He is doing a great job for the Big Macs this year.

JUSTIN BAKER THE TOUCHDOWN MAKER!!!!

i dont think that is the real mr hayden...

id have to disagree with you anonymous. will burgess is like the isaiah jackson.. far more talented than justin baker. Youve got to be kidding when you said hes not athletic. I think hes more talented than you say he is. And what? Three steps too slow. Will burgess is 3 steps too quick. So what you see in burgess and what i see in burgess are too totally different views.

Lj, why do you have to be so down on Justin Baker? You didn't even give Ronnie H credit for saying that Burgess had a heart of a lion. It is not Burgess' fault that he may not be that athletically gifted, at least he goes out and tries every week.

but why did he have to come down on will too. I think that baker and will are both athletic.. Both have heart and both are excellent players. But why did he say hes 3 steps too slow and doesnt have an ounce of ath. ability.?? both are great players but ronnie h came down on will. So he scoming down on both players. i never said justin wasnt good im just disagreeing what he said

Ronnie H is a crazy dude. Word is he has been spending too much time at Penn State football games to appreciate high school athletics. If it is true that he has been up at PSU too much, then it is easy to see why he would feel that burgess and baker were slow and unathletic. It seems like Ronnie just needs to take a reality break and learn to appreciate the great effort that the local athletes give each and every day.

How did Will Burgess do tonight? I saw the Bucs won, but the only mention was of Banas. I wonder if Ronnie H decided to check out the game.

tj was shut down by ringgold in the first half and even were down for almost the entire second quarter. spectacular game until depth took over. nonetheless, it was a very misleading final score
