MONACA (AP) — A merged school district in western Pennsylvania now has a mascot and official colors for its sports teams.
Teams at the Central Valley School District in Beaver County will be known as the Warriors and will wear navy and Carolina blue on their uniforms.
The former Center Area and Monaca school districts are officially merging July 1. The district settled on its new name in February, and a 48-member student committee picked the mascot name and colors on Tuesday.
Center Areas sports teams have been known as the Trojans while Monaca’s teams are called the Indians.
The districts elementary schools will combine this fall, while the middle and high schools will operate separately before combining in the fall of 2010.

I can't believe there wasn't some impassioned outcry about the "violent" name they chose. Maybe people have more important things to worry about right now, or maybe it will crop up down the road.
Scary merger as far as potential is concerned, especially in football. I have coached against Monaca and they are annually a "smack-you-in-the-mouth" team that goes toe-to-toe with Rochester, and Center has been a top ten AA team for the last decade. This could end up a very successful program if a team unity is established.
Does anyone know what classification the new school will be in? I would think that they would be monsters in either AA or AAA.
Also, one thing to consider is that Quigley (area catholic school) stands to benefit tremendously from this merger. I'm sure there will be at least a few parents that vow never to send their kids to the new school for whatever reason and instead choose to pay the tuition fee and send their kids to Quigley.
The thing with Quigley is they were co-op with Monaca for football. do they now co-op with Central Valley or are they out in the cold?
we should be a force in football, i play for monaca and am part of the senior class for the first year of central valley, we'll have a lot of good kids on the team, but it does come down to team unity and i can tell you there isn't the greatest relationship between us and them
Friendly advice to the Monaca senior...
Get over your petty differences, come out and play some ball. Who gives a crap who is from where or what you were before...bury that stuff right now well before your season starts. You'll look back on this five years from now and kick yourself if you let those petty differences disrupt any type of team chemistry that you have. And as a senior, be the team leader and let the rest of your teammates know that none of that petty bickering is going to be tolerated.
We played you guys down at Heinz this past season...you guys are a real tough team with a lot of potential...especially with this merger.

this is the kid from monaca again and i can tell you the only way we'll get "whipped" in football at all is if, like that one guy said, team unity fails us, were gonna have a lot of athletes and a few that can stand out from both schools
Hey Monacian. Don't let some of these posters get to you, they can't help but make it about themselves all the time. How did Canon Mac get in to the conversation? That is a little bit of apples and oranges isn't it? CM has never been a force in football and I believe we are talking about a merger. Beaver County has a reputation for hard-nosed football and combining two successful programs has definite potential. Where is last year's Monaca fullback going to school? He was a throwback player, I am pretty sure he would play with the leather helmet on if he had to.

The chosen Mascot was too vague. I, as a Monaca student, believe that the figures such as name, mascot, and colors should/should have been something totally new. The name "Central Valley" includes the adjective form of Center. Of course it is not necessarily "Center", but it hints at it. Hopefully, now that it's time to submit mascot sketches, they're non-reminiscent of a Trojan nor Indian (although the Indian would be nice, I'd be contradicting myself). If it is chosen to look like a Knight or Spartan, it will be quite close to a Trojan.
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but Center is attempting at a "takeover". Just look at the new Central Valley school board numbers. They'll have a double majority. Fair? Slightly, because of their distinctly higher population, but unfair democratically.
There are many prejudice remarks passed by Center and Monaca students to each other, and judging by the way they reacted when we were recently brought together for an assembly, this will be quite hard. It appears that we don't mix together well, and they may believe they're inferior. Although, we like to believe we're better than them as well. We don't realize that CV will be BOTH of our schools. The first years, mark my words, will be awful, if we keep this up. But I'm not willing to let anyone from Center treat us like dirt, nor should we them.
...and the last post is exactly why "central valley" will go 1-8 or 2-7 in there first year of existance.
Since we're on the topic of merged school districts, I would like to add my two cents worth regarding the merger of Washington & Trinity.
Because of shifting pyrite under the South Elementary school, Trinity is spending thousands of dollars to make temporary repairs
to this building, but according to some members of the school board the school might not even be needed because of declining enrollment in the district. While this is going on in Trinity, the Washington District is in the process of moving half of the school population from the Washington Park facility into the high school building leaving a half-empty building behind. Wouldn't it make more sense to merge the two districts, close the South School and move those students into the park school. I don't expect this to happen during my lifetime, but it does make a lot of sense financially.

just because the students dont get along, which a lot of them dont, doesnt mean that the football teams wont. Im cool with a few of there football players and were going to be doing stuff like speed and agility training this summer with center this year. I think that despite the trouble between the two towns doesnt mean that our football team wont do good
