Little big men

Here's an interesting read from one of my favorite sports writers – ESPN.com's Pat Forde:

Makes an interesting argument in the big school-small school debate.

Having gone to a small school myself that didn't have football but had a very successful hoops team, I can attest to the kind of excitement it brings.
But whether you win a Class A title or a Class AAAA title, it's still a title.

I think that Carmichaels baseball team with Lapkowitz and Gasti could easily win a Quad-A state championship this year. I wish they would let each of the champions from the 4 classifications have a playoff to determine an "overall" state champion for all sports.

that last anon has to be completley crazy.. a sinlge A team such as carmichaels is a talented team but they only have 2 talented kids with Gasti and Lapkowitz.. the most talented team in the area this year has to go to Trinity. They have SEVEN returning starters including the main three pitchers/players with Bukowski,Frey, and Schrader. The difference is that those three have six other great players backing them up when all Carmichaels has in them 2 trying to do it all. Trinity,Peters,Canon-Mac would all easily ten run any single A team inlcuding Carmichaels. Classifications are very important in baseball and football but not as much in basketball.

When I was in High School we (Ringgold) went down and played in a tournament in Kentucky. The gym had to seat at least 2,000 or more people, and it was packed. People down in Kentucky take their hoops serious like people take football serious up here. The level of talent down there is unreal. A good team from the WPIAL would get beat by an average team from Kentucky.

Is it safe to now say that section 4 is the best section in the entire WPIAL. When the WPIAL realigned the sections back in 2004, section 4 has been a mainstay in the championship every year. Of a possible 10 teams to make it to the championship since 04-05, section 4 has sent 7. (05-usc/lebo; 06-lebo/mckeesport; 07-bethel/AG; 08-moon/central; 09-peters/lebo) Every year this section is a battle to see who comes out on top and looking at these numbers it seems to me that section 4 is heads and tails above the rest.

Lapkowitz and Gasti can win every time out because the opponents will not be able to score. They are the best one-two punch in the area. No way does Frey-Schraeder, Pierpont-Toward, or any other duo match up to the Mighty Mikes duet.

There good but Schrader and Frey have more to back them up than Gasti and Lapkowitz.
