Mcguffey got hosed!
all first round games are hosted by the higher seed
dont be scared now Mcguffey...they didnt get hosed that got wat they wanted..homefield advantage...go wash high..
just want to say Good Luck Wash High...keep that confidence level and and we will go all the way...y'all just get better week by week...show Washington Co. that we are the city school and bring that championship back home..your a strong team and it shows week, by week..I admire the ambition Wash High has shown this year..way to go guys..Your no.1 fan...#28 mom
Wow, what a hand McG & Wash Hi were dealt. I don't think either team was shown much respect from the pairings committee. On the other hand, GCC was given an easier route. Look for Gcc in the final at Heinz.
Chuck
Wait, I just realized that if GCC wins at Freeport and Wash Hi pulls out a win at Center, those winners will play in the second round. Maybe the pairings people didn't give GCC the easier road after all.
From a McG fan, go Prexies.
Chuck
Who is CM playing in week 10, Avella, Brentwood, maybe a rematch with Butler.
How can a team rated #3 in AA be a nine seed? I agree, McGuffey got hosed!
Go Mars!!!
I don't care if they gave the #1 seed in class A to Rochester, the road to Heinz runs through Clairton! Very happy to see Laurel on same side of bracket as the Bears. Revenge will be sweet..
over zealous Bears Fan..
Here's how Aliquippa, ranked in the top five by everyone, is the No. 9 seed.
The Quips due to Gardner Points and tiebreakers is the third place team in the Midwestern Conference despite record of 8-1. Center is first and Beaver Falls second. Both are 8-1.
Since Aliquippa finished third, that means the Quips do not get a home game. With the WPIAL seeding them ninth, that means they believe Aliquippa is the best team not playing a home game in Class AA.
And, yes, the Midwestern Conference is strong.
as tomlin would say it is what it is just play football.
Weatherspoon for Clairton (Pitt recruit) is suspended for this weeks game - they probably wont miss him...He threw a punch in last week's game and was ejected..
Okay first of all Sarcastic Sword I am fairly certain you were not at that game. Kevin ABSOLUTELY DID NOT THROW A PUNCH. I was in the press box and watched the whole thing unfold. Neither myself, our coaches, the msa broadcast crew calling the game, the videographers upstairs AND EVEN SOME OF THE SERRA PEOPLE could not understand why on earth Weatherspoon got tossed. He was pushed by Jorge Ramos at the end of the play, Kevin pushed back and was tossed. COMPLETELY uncalled for. A few WAY OVERZEALOUS officials in that game. Here's a question, how does Pacek get allowed to have his ejection overturned by the PIAA and we were told by O'Malley that Kevin's suspension was uncontestable? I know you think all of us Clairton folk are a bunch of thugs but let me tell you, there is no one that works harder than Kevin Weatherspoon. This kid has done everything the right way ever since 9th grade and to throw him out on senior night and take away his last two games at Neil C Brown stadium, after everything this kid is accomplished is more than outrageous, its almost criminal. The officials are the ones that should be suspended after that call. You can say what you want about some of the Clairton players and their fans, but there are two kids that I will defend until I am out of breath and he is one of them...the other is Deontae Howard.
As for the playoff seedings, I think Clairton got a tough draw. Potentially, they will have to run the Big 7 Gauntlet from 4-1 to win the title. Thats a tough feat. 4 of the final 8 teams in single A last year were Big 7 teams. Make no mistake Clairton will be out to prove a point this year. Everyone counted them out after week 1...they are going to make a statement this year and it starts friday night with South Side Beaver.
As good as Kevin is, he will not be missed Friday night.
SSB should have lost to Burgettstown. They won't test Clairton.
I don't think Clairton has the discipline to win a PIAA title.
I'm not going to confirm wether or not Kevin threw a punch last week because I wasn't at the game. Everyone I chatted with in regards to the game, even Serra fans, have all hinted that he didn't throw a punch. In today's football even if you're the second one to push, you're the one thats going to get penelized. So yea if Kevin doesn't shove, or punch, the kid back. He is playing this week. So even if it was a shove Kevin was wrong last week. These things happen. Life goes one and i'll be rooting for the Bears this week as we have to potentially play the Big 7 to win the title.
Wow. Another Clairton player engaging in poor sportsmanship?
There had to be a Fort Cherry player involved, or texting him to make him swing at someone....allegedly.
Prexie,
Coud you give me an email? I have a question about Washington itself.
Hey, you reap what you sew. Even if the Weatherspoon kid is a good kid - I'll trust you guys who know him – as you say, you'd better believe with all the bullcrap that goes on with Clairton games that officials are watching for even a hint of that kind of stuff.
If I were an official, I'd look at all the incidents that have happened over the past few years and say, "I'd better be watching everything in this game. I don't want it to turn into something ugly."
OK Clairton Alum....Heres the story. Before the game started a flag was thrown against Monessen. The referee said that Monessen was taunting but they were just hyped. Nothing different than you see any game, any time. The referree said that he wasn't going to let this be a game like the clairton game. Imagine that! There are many tapes showing what happened before the game and it was no big deal. Two teams talking before they took the field-big deal. Pacak got kicked out of the game when an assistant coach said "if your going to call them then call them both ways". Another big deal! What coach hasn't made that comment, no swearing or personal attacks, just a comment. I guess after the game the ref realized he was wrong when Pacak was ejected and sent an e-mail to the PIAA about their mistake and he was reinstated. Bottom line is anytime Monessen or Clairton take the field the referees have an opinion formed before hand. This years Monessen team has a great group of kids. They are not perfect, but the coaches are enjoying these coachable kids, which was not always what they have dealt with. The kids love playing with one another and are glad they are not dealing with the problem players themselves. The coaching staff won't deal with problem kids. If you can't keep up your grades, come to practice daily and be respectful, you are off the team. Since the kids know the coaches keep to their rules, the kids follow them because they want to be on the field and not in the stands. I'm loving this team in football and lookin forward to watching them this year in baasketball.
Good Luck in your playoff run and we are hoping to see you again this year.
Joey did he deserve a penalty, maybe...but an EJECTION? The kid got ejected for something that happens in every single football game week in and week out. When we played Chartiers Houston, #71 took his helmet off at midfield and threw three punches after a play at Desimon Green. He caused a bench clearing brawl that stopped the game for 30 minutes. Everyone in the stadium saw it. He was NOT ejected. Kevin pushed Ramos...pushed him...thats it...and gets tossed. The officials of that game should never be allowed to officiate another game in the WPIAL.
Clairton Alum,
Pacak's suspension was overturned because the refs ejected him in error. It was an asst coach that made a comment to the ref - the ref ejected Andy because it was the second bench penalty. The ref admitted that they got the rule wrong and should not have ejected Andy - they sent an email to the PIAA indicating so.
Furthermore, the penalty against the team for taunting should have never been called - it should have been a warning to both benchs. It was Monessen's Sr. night, so each senior was announced as they came down the ramp from the fieldhouse and went to the middle of the field (typically it is the starters that are announced)- when the announcer said "And the rest of the Greyhound team" the remaining players ran down the ramp, onto the field and joined the seniors. At the same time, California ran onto the field before Monessen could get to their side of the field. California was screaming and taunting as they got to midfield, so much so that as Cal's #55 was attempting to run sideways, scream and shake his fist - he fell flat on his face (actually kind of amusing) - The Hounds were giving it right back to them. Cal did not go to their bench. The ref called a bench penalty for taunting against Monessen. He told Andy that the officiating crew had problems the week before at the Clairton game and that they were calling a tight game and the penalty was a message to both teams. Another situation that could have been avoided if the refs had controlled how/when the visiting team entered the field.
Andy was angry that the refs came to the game looking to call penalties. Cal had nothing to lose no matter how many penalties were called or how many players or coachs were ejected - their season was over.
Maybe the refs over-reacted when they ejected Weathspoon, but apparenlty he did something. It seems that Clairton's behavior has not only impacted how the refs are calling penalties against the Bears, but how the refs (at leat that crew) are calling penalties against other teams as well.
So first it was an FC player, then a CH player, then the Serra fans defending Clairton.
Someone call Oliver Stone.
Clairton Alum. I'm not saying whether or not he should've been kicked out. I'm just saying if he didn't react to the push he'd be playing on Friday. Minor incidents here on out are going to get worse penelties than the action itself. It is what it is. We just got to have cooler heads than this.
I heard about the benchclear against Char Houston. I didn't bring it up because no one else did.
officials are there to call a football game. they are there to call the game from the opening kick off to the final gun and everything that happens between the white lines. they are supposed to be unbiased and call the game they are watching...not the one that happened the week before or the week before that. there was a great article about the weatherspoon incident in the daily news today written by josh yohe. Josh quite clearly pointed out the bias officials have towards clairton. Josh isnt a clairton guy, he has no "skin in the game". im sorry but that isnt fair. clairton has a reputation, i understand that, and like all reputations they tend to be over-exagerated. simply put, if the officials are letting outside influences enter into their decision making when calling a clairton game then they shouldnt be officiating football games period...because they cannot be unbiased. teams like clairton, monessen and others get this treatment...others do not. California, according to reports, was wrong in what they did at the monessen game, did they get flagged? no...only monessen did. why? Chartiers Houston caused a bench clearing fight, did that kid get ejected? No. why? The truth is most of you people on this blog have never been to a clairton game, you only spit out regurgitated information you hear second hand and claim it as fact. you do exactly what everyone else does...add to the legend that is the clairton bears. I am personally sick of it.
To all you out of shape, overweight officials who are trying to relive your glory days of high school football (or for those that never had glory days in high school and your trying to have a second chance now) i have a request...DO YOUR JOBS THE WAY YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THEM. You are not supposed to be the topic of conversation after a game has ended. Are your lives that bad and do you get dumped on so much that when friday nights and saturdays roll around you have to be "the one in charge"? Is that it? Did you get into officiating because you thought "you know, when i get out on that field i am going to show them who i am...i am not going to let them boss me around anymore". Is that it? Am i getting close? you guys are a joke and you make me sick. From going into stands after fans/parents to throwing innocent people out of games to bringing your personal views on teams/people into games its all disgusting. do your jobs and go home...thats all the parents, coaches and fans ask you to do. this is a game and its supposed to be fun, not an opportunity for you morons to feel like the big men on campus.
Anon, Novemeber 4, 6:59.
You do realize not one referee is listening to your rant right?
i disagree, a lot of those ref's are egomaniacs and full of "Self-importance". I guarantee at least a few of them read all they can about themselves and surf through these types of blogs.
Trinity playing a aa team from a conference that might join the Keystone Conference an not win a playoff game the quarterfinalists could all come from the Parkway and Big Seven Conference. Talk about no respect Greensburg-Salem drawing New Castle, but that's what you get when you're from a conference that's zero wins and thirty-two losses over the last eight years.
If a referee is reading that post, he is either laughing that it's from a Clairton fan, or is full of grammatical errors and misspellings.
I guess that each compliments each other.

"I guess that each compliments each other."

Well anon if you want to turn this into an english class lets analyze your post. There shouldnt be a comma after the word "post" and there also shouldnt be acomma after the word "fan" and before "or" because you are not separating more than two things...the word "or" does that without a comma. Secondly, "I guess that each compliments each other." is not a grammatically correct sentence.
You're an idiot. Go back to watching dancing with the stars.
"If a referee is reading that post," is a dependant clause and therefore SHOULD be set off with a comma. Someone who can't capitalize, spell or use apostrophes correctly shouldn't wade into the deeper waters of correct comma usage.
And the last sentence, while not well constructed, isn't exactly grammatically incorrect, either.
I really don't care about Clairton's supposed reputation for thuggery, but I do care about the dumbing down of the English language.
It is clear that you really don't understand the rules of grammar, so, please, refrain from trying to correct other people's grammar and just stick with football. It is what is supposed to be discussed here, afterall.
OK how the HELL does North Catholic(#4) get ranked ahead of Avonworth (#6)? Avonworth has been on a roll since their 2nd game. They dropped the ball w/ the wrong players at some wrong positions for that first game but got it worked out to run the table the next 7 games INCLUDING North Catholic. North Catholic is ahead of Avonworth? Hmmm, I smell something and it aint roses.
