Semifinals dates, sites and times

Six area teams remain in the WPIAL baseball and softball playoffs. With the baseball championships scheduled for May 26-27 at Consol Energy Park in Washington and the softball title games taking place May 28-29 at California University, ample time remains to get in the next game.

Baseball WPIAL Class AAA
No. 2 Trinity (18-3) versus winner of Friday's Blackhawk/Chartiers Valley game, Tuesday, May 19 at 4 p.m. at North Allegheny High School
A win guarantees Trinity a spot in the PIAA playoffs as well as the WPIAL championship for the second consecutive year. A loss means the Hillers must win a third-place game to get into the state tournament. Hopewell and Moon are in the other semifinal.

Class AA No. 5 South Fayette (14-4) versus winner of Friday's Shady Side Academy/Center game, Wednesday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. at the Burkett Complex in Robinson Township.
Like Trinity, a win guarantees South Fayette a spot in the PIAA playoffs as well as the WPIAL championship. A loss means the Lions must win a third-place game to get into the state tournament. The other semifinal has not been determined.

Class A No. 3 Carmichaels (17-2) vs. No.2 Neshannock (19-3), Tuesday, May 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Burkett Complex in Robinson Township. A win guarantees Carmichaels a spot in the PIAA playoffs as well as the WPIAL championship for the second consecutive year and fifth time since 2003. A loss means the Mikes must win a third-place game to get into the state tournament.
No. 4 Chartiers-Houston (16-3) vs. No. 1 Serra Catholic (18-2), Tuesday, May 19 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant High School. A win guarantees Chartiers-Houston a spot in the PIAA playoffs as well as the WPIAL championship for the first time since 2005. A loss means the Bucs must win a third-place game to get into the state tournament.

Softball Class AAA No. 10 Trinity (11-7) vs. No. 6 West Allegheny (13-6), Wednesday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at California University's Lilly Field. The surprise of the bracket, Trinity can clinch a spot in the PIAA playoffs as well as the WPIAL championship with a win. A loss means the Hillers must win a third-place game to get into the state tournament. Franklin Regional and Belle Vernon are in the other semifinal. That game will be played at 2 p.m. at Cal U.

Class A No. 5 Carmichaels (15-2) vs. No. 1 Vincentian Academy (18-2), Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Fairhaven Park. A win puts Carmichaels in the WPIAL championship and PIAA tournament for the first time since Nikki Gasti pitched them to a Class AA state title in 1999. A loss means the Mikes must win a third-place game to get into the state tournament. Avonworth and Leechburg are in the semifinal, which will played following the Mikes-Royals game.

There must be some mistake. Mike left out the Class AAAA baseball games. Who is Canon-Mac playing? Oh, if forgot, C-M gets a bye into the finals.

Frey plus Hillers equals unbeatable

Go Trinity!!!

I think it is a shame that the Trinity-C.V. game is being played at North Allegheny! Both teams have easy access to the South Hills and even Washington county and I think a "southern" site would be much better for this matchup. How about playing at W&J's field? Sure Trinity would have a closeness advantage, but CV is roughly 20 minutes away which is hardly an inconvience for their fans. It seems that Bob Bozzuto and his staff have determined that the only baseball played in District 7 will occur north of Pittsburgh. How about some Southern Exposure?!

The WPIAL set the site before CV beat WA. It assumed WA would win.

The WPIAL screws up these sites all the time! It doesn't matter what sport it is. Our high school has had to drive and average of 1 hour to our "neutral" site games! The goofs who run this outfit should really do their homework as far as travel is concerned. It wouldn't have mattered if Trinity was scheduled to play Hopewell, the game would have been scheduled for Greensburg!

Neutral site is not "equal distance." Too many people, think both are the same.

Secondly, there are only so many sites made available on certain days, for one reason or another.

Before you take off on those running the tournament, stop and consider all the facts.

CV is on a roll, they advance to finals

Anonymous said...

No they wont!! But anyways the game could easily be played at peterswood park but Bob Buzzuto wont move it.. You would think that the wpial would want to make more money, moving the game there would easily bring in 40+ more people..

Peterswood Park did not host any playoff games this year, so I'm guessing they did not offer the site. There would have been plenty of games there if so

I think Trinity loses to Chartiers Valley. Levi Buddy Bristor is only average as a coach. So unless his big 3 just totally dominate the game (which could happen) I see Chartiers taking this one. I say CV- 5 and Trinity-3.

i guess frey is beatable and so is trinity.. they looked flat against CV and they're only in for a harder opponent against moon or hopewell.

Anonymous said...

Levi Bristor had a really poor coaching game. If he does not get better in time for the consolation then the Hillers will be turning in their uniforms soon.

I guess it comes down to coaching again. Trinity has a stable of pitching and it was the offense and coaching that did them in. Go figure. Good season boys.

I agree it was coaching for Trinity that lost the game. And not the fact that they had 2 hits, and not the fact that they walked 5 or 6 guys, and not the fact that they have been in the semi's for three straight years without the big three (year 1), and not the fact they had two outs and gave four runs, and not the fact (according to the paper) the go ahead run was on a questionable call. So I agree that it was coaching that lost it. No really I do!!!!

Somebody tell me how it was a poorly coached game? I was not able to see or listen to the game. It doesn't suprise me that this happened. It has happened at Trinity for years.

O' yes I forgot the team has a chance to make it in the state playoff's for the third year in a row. I hurdle that has not been accomplished at Trinity. This includes you all-stars from any other era.

Anon 7:19 let me guess your son didn't get in. I'm sure you could have done a better job coaching.

Tough loss for the Hillers. Dwelling on the CV domination will do this squad no good as they have to refocus for either Hopewell or Moon. Both of those teams could easily give Trinity problems.

There were a number of moments in yesterday's game where Coach Bubby Bristor could have made intelligent baseball moves and did not. It seems that he is ok when playing against coaches that are at his level (Krivanek, Kuzma, Champ, Palms, Welch, etc) but he is quickly overmatched when going up against a quality coach (Jaskowski). Bristor must improve (and fast) if this team is to realize their potential.

i would agree with you but name one part of the game that he could have done something different. plus the record against cv is 2-1. there was a total of 4 base runners until the 7th. didn't two of them score. The double steal in the 2nd thats not coaching. having your team prepared for each batter. hillerball how can you say these things. have you ever been to a game. i have in the past and coach bristor has lead the hillers to a place that no other coach has lead the hillers. you sound like a parent that son doesn't play. im sure if you ask the players they like him and know that they could have played better. don't hate the coach because as someone once said if you are wondering why little johnnie is not playing LOOK IN THE MIRROR!!!!

I guess the West A, Moon, Hempfield, Hickory, Punxy, New Castle, Knock, and yes CV (Trinity knocked them out of the playoffs the last two years) are not quality coaches. Be very thankful that you have a coach like him. You could be stuck with what my son has. He is ok but doesn't teach.

"coach bristor has lead the hillers to a place that no other coach has lead the hillers."

Amen.

This coach bashing, whatever the team, after losses is so old and ridiculous.

Coach bashing is easy to do. All you can ask for from a head coach is that they care about your son as a person and a baseball player. They should be able to teach also. Keep in mind that these high school boys are still boys. They will make mistakes. Period. A good coach does more than just "run" the team on the field during a game. He also should care about what his players are doing off the field too. He should be in contact with the youth league feeders that his players are coming from, just to make sure that these players are being instructed up to his requirements. Despite what most of these baseball coaches believe, coaching is not something you can just walk away from after the season is over. There is players to evaluate in the offseason. They need to go to a summer league game to watch what those kids, who aren't given a chance in a varsity game, can do. Most of the time it would be "eye opening" for that coach. Good coaches are few and far between. Is it a coincidence that someone asked for a top 10 list in another post, and for the most part, very little Washington County coaches made that list? Not that there isn't talent here but those who have been successful, have been for years. They build programs by doing what I said earlier. They "work" in the high school offseason...

It is amazing how pathetic some of you people are, hiding behind anonymous tags: Lets look at facts:

This is from the Hiller Baseball website so for those of you who think Bristor got "out-coached", think before you speak! Here is Bristor's tenure (3 years).

2007: Section Champs, WPIAL Semi-Finals, PIAA State Quarterfinals

2008: WPIAL Finals (Lost to a pitcher by the name of St. Clair 4-1) and lost 1-0 in the PIAA Semi-Finals

2009: Section Champs, WPIAL Semi-Finals, Playing for 3rd to advance for the 3rd time in a row of the PIAA Tournament.

Oh, and Bristor has 50 wins in 3 years.... with victories in the playoffs against Jaskowski 2 years in a row, West Allegheny this year, knocked off the #3 and #2 seeds last year in the playoffs (Hampton and Moon)! Boy your sooo right, he sucks! All done without a single Division I player!!

This is the best Trinity Baseball program in the last 60 years of Hiller Baseball.

As for being out coached against CV, the one inning he had base runners, he scored two runs on only 1 hit. How is someone outcoached when they have a 2-1 record against someone? Just pathetic!

Anonymous said...

Dont forget he's only had 2 players go on to play college ball in the past 2 years and trinitys done that good... Yeah he's not a good coach at all!!

Anonymous said...

Guys I don't know if Bristor was outcoached or not (didn't see the game) but how is his prior record any verification that he did/did not get outcoached? People are saying he got outcoached in ONE game (wpial semis vs CV). No one said he got outcoached in 2007 or 2008 or even 2009 up until the CV game.

Also, how does having D-1 (or any college level for that matter) players make a coach immune to being "outcoached?"

Like I said, I was not there. Didn't see the game. But it seems people are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Anonymous said...

People say outcoached, their runs were scored off of two walks, two singles and an interference call. Not a squeeze, trick play, roster move, or anything coaching... You have to be a disgruntled bench warmer parent or the actual bench warmer!! Which is it?

How are the local guys performing in their summer baseball leagues?

write this down frey will shut hopewell down, hillers will advance and then look out!
