Prexies celebration

The 2008-09 WPIAL boys basketball season will the 28th, and final, year for Washington High School coach Ron Faust. To celebrate, the high school is hosting a "Meet the Prexies Night" on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Wash High Gymnasium beginning at 5 p.m.

The event was organized by Tony Ellis, a basketball official and the point guard on Washington's 1984 PIAA Class AA championship team.

The event includes an introduction of this year's boys and girls varsity teams, intra-squad scrimmages, a highlight film and an alumni game featuring approximately 30 former Faust players from the 1980s, 1990s and the 2000s.

During his first 27 years, Faust has won 495 games, 16 section titles, four WPIAL championships and two state titles.

Those attending are asked to bring a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Greater Washington County Food Bank. A Chinese Auction will benefit the Rebecca Rogers Foundation.

Mike do you have any predictions yet for the upcoming high school basketball season? Do you see any Washington County teams having great seasons?

I like South Fayette in Class AA boys, especially if it finds the rebounding it lost when Zach Patterson graduated last year.

As for the other local boys teams, I want to see some games before I make any predictions.

There was a lot of turnover, though Peters Township returns several starters including Nick Wilcox from a playoff team.

I think South Fayette will have a strong team this year as well. Last year's team gave Jeanette a run in the playoffs with all freshman on the team except one junior and one senior.

South Fayette is not that good. They wont even beat Jeanette this year with our Terrelle. There was a reason they started such a young line up. Its because they arent that good.

Your team has to have very little depth to start that many young players.

Ummm guys... The double-A champion has already been announced... Beaver Falls. After the football team lost in on Saturday, Todd Thomas said that they weren't going to lose a game in basketball and were going to win the title. (in case it isn't obvious, i dont agree with his statements)

We were talking about basketball... No kidding the AA football season is over genious.

anon who says that starting young players means you won't be good in the future,

that doesn't make sense.

outside of jeannette, south fayette only lost 3 games to AA oponents last year... not too shabby

anon right b/f brian's post...i think the person said that Todd Thomas predicted an undefeated season in BASKETBALL after his team lost in FOOTBALL. I.E. he is saying that Beaver Falls is going to win the AA BASKETBALL title.

condescending language has no place on this blog and people like you with your "genious" comment (which you spelled wrong btw) are ruining it for the rest of us.

South Fayette will have a solid team this year. When I was in high school Uniontown played alot of 9th graders who would later go on to lose in the state championship game their senior year in 2002. AA and A since they are smaller schools are going to start younger players more often. It is alot harder to get on the court at a larger school. South Fayette has some talented young players who should have another stellar season.

Mike-- Happy Thanksgiving!

Todd Thomas is going to ruin the Pitt football team. He would have fit in much better with the Miami Hurricanes.
