What these eyes have seen...

I've taken in a ridiculous amount of high school baseball the past week and there have been a few snoozers along with an incredible number of insane moments. Before I roll over to Trinity's WPIAL Class AAA semifinal against Moon, it's time for a quick recap.

1. I seriously doubt anyone attending Tuesday's WPIAL Class AAAA quarterfinals between Canon-McMillan and Shaler will ever see an ending like that again. Not sure exactly how to score the double-rundown double play the Big Macs recorded to end the game and secure a well-played 1-0 victory. I think it went something like 1-5-2-5-2-5-4-6-5.

Much credit deserved for the C-M defense which did not commit an error and kept their composure during such a critical situation.

The win, however, belongs to the pitching of Chris Dittmar and Chris Douglas. They were both outstanding.

2. I also doubt I'll see a two-run game-winning sacrifice fly any time soon but I did see one when Rochester beat Chartiers-Houston, 6-4, in the Class A quarterfinals. Tough not to feel sorry for the Bucs to lose on such a freak play.

3. It's highly unlikely I'll see Carmichaels ace Joby Lapkowicz surrender another three-run inning like he did during the Mikes' 5-4 win over Vincentian following the Rochy-CH game. Said it before and I'll say it again, Lapkowicz would be the number one pitcher at most schools in Western Pennsylvania.

He gave up two earned runs all year before giving up three in the first to the Royals.

4. Trinity's Tyler Schrader may gain early entry into the new Trinity Sports Hall of Fame if he keeps pitching like he has this postseason.

5. And, finally, has anyone else noticed Peters Township is on a roll? It's amazing how the Indians get it done in the postseason.

Mike are you planning on doubling up today by going to the CM-Plum game @ NA and the Peters-NA game @ W&J? Just looking at the final 4 in AAAA and considering that NA, Peters, and Plum are all programs with great history, I am kind of looking at CM like the George Mason of the group. I don't mean that CM is inferior in terms of talent, I just mean that at the beginning of any season, it is unlikely that people would predict a deep tournament run for the Big Macs.

Hard not too feel sorry for the Bucs? It isn't like it was a deep drive to the warning track and the center fielder slipped! It was poor baseball by the Bucs at an inopportune time, nothing more. And it ended their season.

I forget where Mike's at today but I'm at NA. Big Macs in a little trouble, down 3-1 after 4. Pierpont starting and Dittmar got banged up a little.

3-2 now. Dittmar gutted it out but came out before the start of the bottom of the fifth. He was really favoring his ankle.

Any word on the status of Ronnie Hayden for the consolation game? He took a mean spill the other day and I believe he is questionable for the game.

I hear that he faked his injury to get into cruise shape. But that is just a rumor

Ronnie is a mean competitor, he will be ready to go by game-time.

Ronnie is fine. He is in Detroit for games one and two of the Stanley Cup Finals. Rumor has it that Ronnie is going to be honored during the first intermission for his contributions to the NHL before, during, and after the strike. A big thanks goes out to Ronnie from all of us here at the varsity letters. If it was not for him, the NHL would still not be playing.

Does anyone know if/when the school board is going to fire the coaching staff at CM?

If CM school board fires curent coaching staff, i will fire current school board. I don't that post was serious, right? You're just trying to start up some chatter...

Did anyone see Ronnie drop the ceremonial puck with Steve Yzerman? He looked great out there!
