J.J. gets the call

Last year, Nick Merich pitched Peters Township to the WPIAL Class AAAA championship. Merich is still a key component of the Indians' rotation but head coach Joe Maize will start Jordan Jankowski on the mound Wednesday night against Plum.

In addition to being a prolific power hitter, Jankowski is 5-0 with 1.00 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 35 innings. He's pitched complete games in each of his four starts with two shutouts.

He pitched a shutout in the quarterfinals against Seneca Valley.

Is anyone betting against PT in this one? Where are the people that were knocking JJ and PT saying they underachieved?

Elite players rise to elite levels at critical times. That's what Jankowski and Peters Township are doing this postseason.

This postseason has been filled with great performances from local players.

There's Trinity's Tyler Schrader, Carmichaels' Chuck Gasti and C-M has continued to get production from every possible outlet.

Heck, even in a loss Char-Houston's Andy Petras went 3-for-3 with a home run.

The 2008 baseball season is going down as one of the best this area has produced. It's been a treat to follow.
