Team of the Week - Peters Township
Always an afterthought, Peters Township finally made a statement against a fellow Class AAAA team with its 21-14 victory over Bethel Park in the Great Southern Conference opener for both.
The Indians played bend-but-don't-break defense, while quarterback Austin Hancock and running back Justin Miller turned in fine performances. Hancock scored the game-winning touchdown and his third-down run in the game's final minute sealed the win.
Behind what may be it's best offensive line in recent memory, Peters Township is 4-1 and, more importantly, 1-0 in conference play. The Indians take a two-game conference win streak - they beat Canon-McMillan to end last season - into Upper St. Clair, which sports the same record.

Game of the Week - Brentwood 28, Fort Cherry 21 (OT)
Undefeated Brentwood surged to an early lead at home before Fort Cherry took over in the third quarter. The Rangers took a 21-14 lead in the third with 14 straight points and less than two minutes into the fourth, FC had a chance for a 10-point lead but a 30-yard field goal attempt fell short. Brentwood tied the game with less than two minutes left on the third of Cory Bauer's four TD passes. In overtime, Brentwood scored on its first play. On the second play, the Spartans intercepted Tanner Garry for the win.
Weird, wild stuff - At 5-0 in the Tri-County South Conference, Beth-Center already locked up a WPIAL Class A playoff berth. The Bulldogs play at Monessen, a one-point loser to North Catholic last week, with the winner owning the inside edge on the conference title. ... Avella couldn't run against Clairton in a 65-0 loss but the Eagles' 88 passing yards represents some of the best offensive output against the Bears' defense this season. ... As Trinity head coach Ed Dalton stated, "We're terrible frontrunners. We play our best when our backs are against the wall." Like last week against West Mifflin and Trinity came out with a 25-14 win. This week, the Hillers play winless Elizabeth Forward and assume the frontrunner position.

Bravo to PT! Bethel Park played 9 in the box and still couldn't stop the running game or get to Hancock.
The o-line in front of these talented players is making this a very tough offense to stop. Friday vs USC should be fun, since these teams don't much care for one another.
I have to say, that in all my years of Football, I have never seen a worse officiated game then that of Monessen/N.C. last Friday. Monessen could have and should have won that by 2 or more touchdowns. I am 57 years old with 20 years of coaching and also have been an official for 15 and this is as bad as it gets folks. I know what it feels like to be criticized for calls but this crew had to have a hard time falling asleep that night. That Monessen team is very good and played a tremendous game, so my hats are off to them. I would hope that this crew doesn't attempt this stunt again. I know that officials do not like coming to Monessen, and history has proven it to be hostile but as a ref you cannot go into a game with a chip on your shoulder. You are there for the kids and to reinforce far play. That is it. Sympathy to the team who has this crew in the future. God bless
