Live – Wash High vs. N. Catholic

We've got wireless at Hempfield High. So, as long as I have battery power, the PIAA Class AA boys semifinal between Washington and WPIAL champion North Catholic will be updated live.

NC arrived late, so tipoff will not be until 6:10 p.m., at the earliest.

Big crowd already in attendance from the High.

End of one quarter – North Catholic leads 12-10. NC not quite as athletic as I thought but the Trojans look like they can rebound with the Prexies. One developing storyline is fouls – Wash High's Robert Anderson has two.

5:57 2nd – Wash High timeout after turnover. NC leads 17-12. The Trojans have made three three-pointers.

3:25 2nd – Anderson steal and layup trims Wash High deficit to 17-14.

Halftime – After Wash High creeps within 19-18, NC scores five straight poin6ts and leads at halftime, 24-20. NC has five three pointers and has limited the Prexies to three offensive rebounds.

Robert Anderson leads Washington with 10 points, while Troy Wilson has six rebounds. Jesse Long leads the Trojans with seven points. Henry Pwono has six points and four rebounds.

2:01 3rd – Wash High on a 14-3 run. Takes 34-27 lead on Anderson fast-break layup.

End 3rd – Wash High leads 36-27. NC no field goals in third and only one rebound final 4:30.

5:01 remaining – Wash High ahead 40-32 with Pwono at line attempting to complete three-point play. Battery power very low.

1:27 remaining – Wash High clinging to 46-44 lead. Has the basketball. NC on 11-4 run. Gym is very loud.

Under 1 minute – Pwono bank, game tied, 46-46. Wash High has the basketball.

OVERTIME!

51.8 left – NC 55-54 with ball.

Final score – NC 58-54.

Theres no need for that type of talk. Wash High had a great season but lose with some class now come on.

Well Love don't embarass Wash High with your ignorance. The game was played and we lost. We had our chances to win but it didn't happen. If this is the worst thing that happened to these young men in their life then they shall feel blessed. Get your self together, because you have a lot of hostility built up. Channel this energy towards your education because you really sound silly.

Wow!! Let's sum the game up this way.. Wash Hi saw a mirror image of themselves tonight ...it was Wash Hi vs Wash Hi and the team with the fewest turnovers won! I didn't see it any other way. Was the Anderson charge a bad call "YES" no question! They blew it! But you still can't make that many turnovers and expect to win.

First and foremost all charter, prep and Catholic schools need to be in a league of their own or have to play up to Quad A. Secondly, there are some that feel we send the blame the refs way when we lose games. As a parent of a Washington player who plays 3 sports I have seen through the years very bad calls made against Washington teams, this is nothing new it happens alot,if you were a parent of a Washington player you would feel the same way seeing you child and his team mates work so hard and have it taken away by bad calls. It really is a shame that adults can take that away from them time and time again, it would be nice if they would just do what's right! In the end and after such an awesome season, We are SO PROUD of our boys!!! WAY TO GO WASH HIGH!!!!! HOLD YOU HEADS HIGH!!

I don't think the game came down to one call.

I definatly agree about the catholic schools being in a leauge of their own. If they can recruit, why cant public school?

Dear prexie fan, My sons go to wash high also. During any contest their may be some calls that go your way and some might not. However, sometimes we become victims of our own success. Case in point;they way the rules are structured and the way WH has played defense over the last 30 years, almost every player would have theoretically fouled out with the way they play. But when ateam that is more aggressive than WH plays,(NC was more aggressive) WH we want those calls to be made. Can't have it both ways. North Catholic is a championship team and made championship plays down the stretch when WH clearly outplayed NC for 28 out of 32 min. We need the parents of old at WH when they used to tell the kids you have to work harder and get better instead of all these parents making excuses for them. Just like in football, blamed everyone from the superintendent to coaches, and referees instead laying the blame where the majority of it rests, with the players attitudes and committment. The only great thing about boys basketball was Mr. Faust never let the players feel passified. He kept it real w/them and explained to them and the paper the reasons why they lost. NO EXCUSES.

I would just like to say to all the loyal prexies fans that have been with us this whole year thank you for all the support. Even though i feel for football more than basketball i've had great memories with a great group of guys that i love and wouldn't wanna be at any other school in the country we worked so hard since our 10th grade year rob, nick, troy, john i would like to let you know how much yall mean to me thank you for everything and thank you coach for being a great teacher, coach and a leader

WASH HIGH FOR LIFE -09

To all of the players. Congrats on a great season. It was fun watching you guys grow and mature. Here is something to chew on: "Sometimes things happen in life, good or bad that become defining moments in your life. Later in life you can reflect back to these moments and memories and draw inspiration. The life lessons i learned thru playing sports I still draw on today in my adult life. Ask yourself this. What would i do different in my life if we would have won?Answer: Hopefully nothing different.

To Mark Wise and the rest of the team, THANK YOU. You took us on a ride that will forever remain in our memories. With the drugs and violence overwhelming our neighborhoods, you guys brought us together as a community to cheer you on. We know you were talented enough to be state champs, it just wasn't in the cards. To win a state title takes a million things to work for you, we had 999,999 things working for us, the refs were not, haha. Again it was a great season and you guys brought some good news to our city and sent coach Faust off right. Good luck in life and I hope you are even more successful than your scholastic careers were.

Dear Anonymous, I really don't think you even saw the game the other night because if you were, you would have noticed when the charge under the basket was called against Anderson you would have also noticed the ref under the basket was going to call it against NC, the other ref at mid court starting waving him off under the basket and called it against us, literally over-riding the ref who clearly had a birds eye view of what happened, even the NC crowd had a look of amazement on their faces. As for making excuses for the way our sons play ball, well... you don't know anything about any of them because if you did you would know their hearts and their talent, we don't have to tell them they have to work hard and do better, they are athletes and are instilled with the integrity, perseverance and dedication already. Do you think they go out in competition and not want to win? They couldn't do if they tried. We know they gave it their all...and you still can't BEAT THE REFS!! They know it as well...and they don't need excuses...

How many boys are returning to Wash High Basketball next year and how many seniors are you losing this year?

Anonymous said...

To Many there not going to do anything nxt year..

You don't even know what you're talking about...give it a rest.

Hey Mike, what do u think Wash High will look like next year?

Anonymous said...

Isnt it funny...

7 of the final 8 teams in the PIAA Class A boys tournament were private schools and each of the 4 championship games in A and AA (Boys A and AA, Girls A and AA) featured private schools against private schools.

Hmmm...

dunks are worth 2 points so thats nothing big. you guys wont go far next year cause your NEW coach will have too many egos to deal with with the young guys coming up. the best players coming up are the biggest head cases in the world. best way to deal with that is cut them. the wise and kelly boy arent mentally strong enough to play varsity, i seen them on the playground.

Each of them could easily avg 8-10 pts. There will be some growing pains of course but that is what the nature of the beast. Don't hate!

Mark fine post-young man! I congratulate you, the other seniors and the entire Wash High team. The team this season was a source of pride for the entire community. You seniors enter high school kids but you’re leaving as man. Please you and the other seniors take these positive experiences and build upon them. Those quality attributes that the seniors displayed on the court will also serve you well off the court. You guys didn’t squander opportunities at basketball; I think you guys won’t in life. Thank you, and I wish you and the other seniors much success in life!

how can you start thinking about next year you`ll never beat any school from philly anyway go out to the playgrounds and slam on the bent rims and try to get better.just stay out of trouble keep away from drugs and don`t play with guns(we were told matches)and while your at the playground make sure your garbage goes in the can not on the ground next to it.

Thinking about next year, never beat a school from philly, bent rims, try to get better, what a stupid post. Apparently you’re a novice when it comes to scholastic basketball because the better players pretty much play year round. For many their quest for success next year starts right after the high school season ends. Many of these players will play on AAU teams through the spring and summer seasons. Contrary to popular believe most of the kids in Washington are not trouble youth. And from what I know about the players on the Washington High School team there not know for drugs and guns, and in spite of the adults of the community particular those in the position of authority letting them down by not providing suitable places to play basketball in the neighborhoods these youngsters have done very well. As for your advice to get better, falling one game short of going to state championship, I’m sure they’ll strive to better themselves next year.

Considering North Catholic took Imhotep Charter to double OT before losing, maybe the gap between the East and West isn't as great in Class AA this year as previously believed.

Anonymous said...

i`m saying don`t look for trouble because its out there and for bent rims you must not have been to any playgrounds were these kids play.i`m sure they all can afford to join AAU teams and get transportation so don`t make it out like i`m saying these are troubled youths i respect all kids that practice to make them self better. Not all of them can play on AAU teams i`ve seen these teams and who is on them.they hand pick most of the teams and pay there way so go out and fix the places these kids play at.

Anonymous said...

the playground is where you hone your game. AAU was for the elite but now anybody can play if you want to pay. Keep playing with the older guys and your game will improve.
