Football coaches release top propsects list

Football recruiting lists are too numerous to track, which is why this blog tries to only post ones from web sites/media sources with a solid reputation.

An interesting list arrived in my inbox this morning, and it came from the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association. The group released its first list of top high school senior prospects from Pennsylvania for 2012. There's no players from Washington or Greene counties but Josh Stepoli (who is listed as a player for Greensburg Central Catholic) recently transfered back to Monessen.

You should add Alfon Cooke to this list...I believe he is going to have a great year this year!!! A defensive back and slot back by the way....

Michael Beveridge and Quad Law are worthy of making this list as well.

Indeed, those ringold boys deserve it. anybody know what d1 schools are looking at beverdige??

Demetrius Louis is primed to have a stellar year. He is at most times the fastest person on the field. And to be the fastest person on Ringgold is saying something.

Mike Beveridge should be getting some serious looks this year..had some tremendous plays last year!!

Mike Beveridge will not touch or be close to touching a D1 field. Who cares about Ringgold anyway, there is a reason they don't have anyone on this list.

It amazes me how people on this blog truly have nothing good to say about Ringgold....I mean those boys played very well last year and outdid everyones expectations but their own and yet some major jackwagon such as yourself completely shoots down the idea that a kid with the size and athleticism of Beveridge couldn't play at a Youngstown or MAC conference school...but then again your probably typing your responses from your grandmas basement...lol

Ringgold people care about these student-athletes.

Beveridge was in the small handful of top defensive players I saw during the 2010 season. After seeing him play basketball, he's much more athletic than I originally thought.

Its one thing to be a nice player for a AAA school in a weak conference and quite another thing to be D-1 caliber...Even the good players from the WPIAL who arent D-1 caliber seldom make a name at the D-2 level...All of the kids mentioned here from Ringgold have athleticism, have made plays to help their team, but there isnt a D-1 player on the Rams...

I have to agree 100% with Sword. I have seen and known D-1 athletes with specific attributes that programs look for. A mixture of not only athleticism, but mental ability and over-all maturity also. These are major factors leading into recruitment. Unfortunately, none of these players have these qualities. Look for IUP, Slippery Rock, *Maybe CAL U* or not playing football in college to be in the
future of these players.

Were there any D-1 players last year from the area?

mike_kovak said...

I can't recall any.

There are several 1-AA players. Trinity's Kyle McWreath (Robert Morris) and Ty Billie (Liberty); Washington's Julien Anderson (RoMo); South Fayette's Christian Brumbaugh (William & Mary), Nolan Spicer (Liberty) and Nick Faraci (RoMo).

And I don't see anything wrong with landing with a DII program. There's an outstanding one in Washington County.

There is nothing wrong with landing at a D-II or D-III school...If a kid can get his education paid for or at least partially paid for, bravo to him, no matter the level of competition...

Mike Beverage has shown everyone what he is all about and he will go far with his athleticism and his scholastics...D1 school not out of reach for that boy...

Cal doesn't recruit hs players anymore. They took Rands this year and Conway but 90% of their recruiting classes are D1 castoffs. They are winning though so I guess you can't argue with their methods.

To the question about D-1 players from the area. ShelDon Miller from Monessen went to Akron last year. I heard he actually ended up starting as a Freshman too.

Anonymous said...

Derek Fiore has also selected California (PA)...I believe he will see the football a "couple" of times in his tenure there....kid is a heck of a ballplayer!!!

Anonymous said...

Derek Fiore ...let's just say another Ringgold player

mike_kovak said...

Talking about 2010-11 school year anon.

Yes, Miller went to Akron. Mike Hull went to Penn State. Chad Hagan went to Ohio State and Ken Wilkins went to Michigan last year.

Didn't the kid from Wash High go to BGSU?

mike_kovak said...

Yes, Bryan Thomas is at Bowling Green.

Bumped into BT after a Wash High-South Fayette basketball game and he's bulked up. BG redshirted this year and he'll be a defensive end with freshman eligibility in 2011.

I believe Bowling Green opens its season at West Virginia. That's not a bad trip for Prexies fans.

Demetrius Louis is 100% a Division 1 prospect on the Rams, but he will only be a junior. If the kid has a head on his shoulders, AND coaches who are pushing him (busting his butt in the weightroom, getting his name out there already to as many coaches and scouts as they can, etc.) then there is no doubt he is a sure fire division 1 prospect...The other players named...Beveridge, Law, and Cook are all great players, but their size alone gives them just about 0 chance of going division 1. They could be terrific D-II or D-III players. Also very skeptical of Rands and Fiore going to Cal U, obviously Humbert has some pull to help them get looked at by Coach Luckhardt but I feel as though it will be super surprising if either one ever becomes anything more than a special teams contributor or key reserve. Cal U is a different animal in that each year there is some new D-I guy arriving to start for the year or 2 of eligibility that they have left. Would have loved to see them go somewhere where they would have been bigtime contributors.

Why say "another Ringgold player"?
Fiore is a legit D2 running back....

Hey Realist...you ever been in the Ringgold weightroom with Coach Vitalbo??? You should not talk about what you don't know about...Coach Vitalbo pushes us every day we are in there and cares about every kid getting better!!! Go back to your hole!!!
Ringgold by the way won the Mon Valley Classic weightlifting competition last year...
