Dalton out as AD at Trinity

Only two days ago, Ed Dalton believed a policy proposed by the Trinity School Board to ban all administrators from coaching could be the end of his 11 years as the Hillers' football coach.

Following Thursday's school board meeting, the chances Dalton will return as Trinity's football coach in 2010 increased. If he does, it will likely be as a social studies teacher after the board voted not to renew his contract as athletic director.

Dalton’s contract as athletic director ends June 30.

Dalton was hired as Trinity’s athletic director and football coach in March 1999 and his duties began on May 1 of that year. He was given a five-year contract –unusual at the time – for $60,500 as athletic director, $9,500 as football coach and weight lifting coordinator.

I am just curious as to why Dalton is not favored at Trinity. He seemed to be doing good.

You can usually count on our local school boards to make poor decisions. That goes for most of the schools in your readership area-big or small. They all have their agendas and favotites.

He's 54-56. With five playoff appearances in 11 years in a district that takes half its football teams to the playoffs. This is doing good?
And he's still the football coach. He's just no longer the AD.

I think where Trinity was before Dalton arrived should be considered.

Laughingstock is being polite.

It's all about personal agenda's. Now let's see how they are still going to save the tax payers money when they have to pay an AD and top dollar to Coach Dalton.

I am ready for football season. This is going to be a long two and a half months. Early predictions in A, AA, AAA, and AAAA?

Clairton has to be the preseason favorite in Class A.

Can anyone come up with Trinity's records under other coaches? I know they were poor. The only playoff appearances that I recall before the Dalton era was 1994 class Quad A (Peterson's last season) and the 1986 team (AAA). 54-56 is good when you built a program from the ground up. There was nothing left at Trinity when Stoker left, NOTHING!

Does anyone else see a problem with this board? They say they are about saving money, but they just added $80,000 to the payroll of the district. They will need to hire another AD ($80,000 is the going rate at a school of Trinity's size) and add another teaching position. They can't layoff a teacher to add Dalton's position, its against policy. Again, do you think this is a self serving school board? I think so!

Trinity won two playoff games in its history pre-Dalton.

As for winning seasons from 1922 (its first year) to 1953, Trinity had 20 winning seasons and one unbeaten year in 1948 (8-0-2). From 1953 to 1991, there were seven.

I dont really follow Quad A that much, but in Class A Clairton is loaded with a huge senior class that is coming off of back to back trips to hershey...they might make it 3 years in a row.

Aliquippa was supposed to be a year or two away from having a powerhouse last year...and then wound up in the title game with a very young team. I look for Aliquippa to return to Heinz.

In AAA, if its anything other than a West A/Hopewell final ill be shocked.

I'm so confused. Why would Trinity advertise for an Athletic Director without putting the school district in the ad and why in the world would the applications be sent to Gibsonia? Aren't the offices for Trinity School District located in the high school building on Park Avenue in Washington? Who's going to drive to Gibsonia to pick up the applications? And, wouldn't a school district of this size prefer someone with experience? Something just doesn't seem right here.
