Wash High's Paskert Scouting for Attention

South Fayette senior Dillon Haviland is the WPIAL's top pitching prospect and has been since the Lions' run to the 2009 PIAA Class AA championship game. Wash High's J. Jay Paskert drawn as much attention, but his senior season is gaining considerable attention from a few colleges and major league teams.

A big, burly righty, Paskert might be Washington's best baseball prospect since Justin Gregula, who went to Old Dominion after graduating in 2002.

He sports a 5-0 record with a 1.37 ERA and 91 strikeouts, which might lead the WPIAL. He's allowed only 17 hits.

Paskert has drawn college interest from Division II California and Slippery Rock, which has several local players on its roster. Pitt is considering attending Washington's game Monday and the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals have inquired about Paskert.

JJ is a great pitcher. Following the Prexies this year, he is the by far one of the best pitchers that the Prexies have seen since Justin Gregula or Diontae Walker. Good luck Prexies in the WPIAL playoffs!

he's already thrown 2 no hitters and 1 walk away from a perfect game

Congratulations Prexies!! Keep up the good work! Good luck in the WPIAL playoffs. That being said, when are the pairings going to be set? Any opinions on the local teams chances?

I don't have the WPIAL calendar in front of me but I believe the softball pairings will be released Thursday and baseball pairings Friday.

As always, several local teams have a shot at doing well this postseason and I am intrigue by Washington's chances after seeing the Prexies play so well without Paskert. South Fayette is the prohibitive favorite in Class AA.

Serra is the favorite in Class A but Bentworth and California look strong. California coach Don Hartman is one of the best around and if he gets the Trojans to the title game, I like their chances. Beth-Center and Char-Houston could also impact the Class A bracket.

I'm also interested to see how Peters Township fares. The Indians haven't had the pitching they grew accustomed too during a run of state championship and WPIAL title appearances but they've proven they can beat any team.
