Stepoli transfers to GCC

Monessen's chances of qualifying for the PIAA Class AA boys basketball playoffs a fourth consecutive year took a hit when sophomore forward/center Josh Stepoli left the team late last week and transfered to Greensburg Central Catholic.

Stepoli averaged a double-double for Monessen, the second-place team in Section 5-AA with a 9-2 record. The Greyhounds are 13-4 overall and on a two-game win streak after being blown out at home by Washington.

Monessen, which plays up in classification and plans to stay in Class AA according to head coach Joe Salvino, already clinched a spot in the WPIAL playoffs.

His brother, Terrance Stepoli, quit the basketball team in early January and previously transfered to Greensburg Central Catholic. His sister Samone Stepoli was cited for disorderly conduct last week for her role in a fight that took place during halftime of a boys basketball game between Washington and Monessen Jan. 29.

Wash High is going to win the WPIAL!

The WPIAL cannot POSSIBLY let Stepoli play sports at GCC. There is no educational intent for this move.

The WPIAL better get ahold of this rampant transferring. Mark my words, if the WPIAL doesn't, every time a coach yells at a player, they will transfer to another school. It could get real ugly.

All for academic intent I am sure. GCC cannot possibly feel good about the unfair advantage they have over the other teams in AA. At the AAA and AAAA level it is a more level playing field because the schools still have a large number of boys to choose from, but in AA, there is only so much talent to go around and it seems like more and more are going to GCC.

How long before the Stepoli daughter goes to GC?

Maybe the disciplne at a catholic school will help straighten them all out because based on actions of both Stepoli boys and the sister, self-control and discipline is something that is missing from their character...

The Stepoli girl has graduated. These kids do need self control and discipline. Wont have their mother and father at the school to protect them. These boys have been coached by their dad in football and basketball since they started in midget leqague and then coached was their high school. On top of that their dad works for the Monessen school district. They will do better not being under their parents thumb.

What really needs to happen is for the private/parochial schools to play in their own league, not the WPIAL.

Brant has a problem with anything to do with God or religion.

If you think this transfer has anything to do with religion or God you are sadly mistaken.

so, california, you played hard our hearts to you. but, the parents, "watch those elbows, hit him back, play dirty too, the fat lady in the yellow shirt, the lady with red sweater screaming like a boy in puberty, the lady in green, screaming, get him him, watch the elbows, maybe we criticized the Stepoli boys to much, so they have an excuse, mother's what was yours. Lady in green, I think you should remember on how it was at Cal, the boys thrown pennies at the Btown cheerleaders, nasty words, I see and hear where they got it from. GOOD LUCK HOME YOU PLAY MONESSON. Make sure you carry on like that too.

My problem with the parochial and private schools competing in the WPIAL has NOTHING to do with God or religion. It has to do with playing by two sets of rules in attracting players.

you guys are just jealous that a catholic school is better than a public school. just like everyone says we(GCC) recruit. and if you know what your talking about we should be playing in A cuz we only have about 500 kids in the school so technically we have a disadvantage against other schools in terms of who we get. We just have good coahing and the talent to go along with it. GCC will win the PIAA state championships in 2011
