Tsk Tsk "C-M fan"

At the Varsity Letters, we pride ourselves on providing a forum for high school student-athletes, fans, coaches and parents to offer opinion on various topics. Through the blog's first eight months, we've done this without censoring comments and hope to continue this.

However, if recent posts like the one left by some kettlehead from C-M concerning Peters Township baseball continues, all posts will need my authorization for publication. Your ridiculous, cowardly post Anon did not work. Rather than make Peters Township look bad, you made Canon-McMillan and its proud, vocal fan base look bad.

Sadly, this marks the second time the C-M crowd got a little out of control.

We're here to have fun and one can poke fun without being vulgar or malicious. IMO, this blog has been a success, in part, to some thoughtful criticisms leveled by posters, including some great reads by people in the Ringgold area.

Let's keep it clean folks.

I agree- these ridiculous comments unfortunately show the true colors of a small number of C-M parents/fans. Most of the people there have been courteous and respectful, but there are a couple of fans that consistently exhibit atrocious behavior. Having been to several C-M sporting events over the years, I have seen many examples of poor behavior especially from one parent who yells out abusive things not only at the other team but his own team as well. I have also seen this person drinking and chewing tobacco at the games which should be a violation of school policy. People like that should be banned from the events because they destroy the ideals set forth under the term "sportsmanship."

Instead of responding intelligently to the initial remarks, or adding something to the conversation, the last two comments just illustrated the stupidity of the people who posted them.

Brant...Well stated. I've learned nothing from the last two posts other than we need to insist on more funding for private/public education!!

I've learned nothing from the last 2 posts other than the clear cut fact that the posters are complete tool sheds.

My highly anticipated and joyful return has sadly been overshadowed by some immature and perhaps idiotic poster. Fear not CM fans, for i bring to you the good news of my return to the varisty letters and my endless supply of knowledge regarding high school sports(I didn't really know how much VL covered baseball)... Nevertheless i am here now and anticipate some quality discussion. I am however rather displeased that someone with a Canon McMillan education would abuse this forum and deteriorate the reputation and legacy that myself and many other fellow alumn worked hard to help establish. I have however not seen these comments, but the fact that they were removed signifies to me their offensivness.

Meh, oh well.

Brian we all missed you so much. It just hasn't been the same without you.

P.S. Do you have any clue who the first poster was talking about...I have a pretty good guess lol

Son,

I think I might know who that could be :X .... However, I got a giggle outta this "... but there are a couple of fans that consistently exhibit atrocious behavior. Having been to several C-M sporting events over the years, I have seen many examples of poor behavior especially from one parent..." Sounds like a personal issue to me. Now don't get me wrong, i completely agree that certain CM fans and parents step out of bounds more often than they should, but the way that it is presented here is kinda silly.

Are the last two posts thinking of a heavier man that is probably average height? If it is, I think I know who you are talking about and I have been witness to the "chewing tobacco" at the games, but not the drinking--- yet 8>). As per the initial poster's other comments, I have also been witness to the abusive comments made mostly towards his own team (C-M). I don't know if it matters, but I have only been to basketball and football games (not sure if poster #1 had a particular sport(s) in mind) and this is where I've seen the behavior from the man I described above.

Well if it is one of the two that I have in mind, I doubt that these "abusive comments" would come about at football games. But you never know with them haha.

While chewing whacky tobacky causes me to frown and should be kept off school property, i don't think that's really the problem. The attitude of not just the individual that is being singled out by anonymous but of others who share this mans characteristics is what is wrong. It's the fact that they feel that it is okay for them to do or say what they want, and in many instances what they want to do or say is in poor taste. People like this also attempt to intimidate others. (don't know if i like that word choice but i couldn't think of a better way to put it at the time) What i don't understand more than anything is how someone can get so down on their own child- a part of their family, someone who does nothing but idolize and learn from them their entire life- for simply making a mistake or not having a good game. It makes me wonder if these people come to the game to watch and support their child or do they come with hopes to show off their child. It's one thing to be hard on your child and want them to be the best that they can be, and its another to get mad and tell your child that they embarrassed you on the field.... When a parent yells things at other kids, well that parent is..... I'll let you finish that sentence with a word or two of your choice.

Why the question mark? I'm not gonna say yes or no. i don't think name dropping in a topic like this is a very good thing to do...
