  2. I was not expecting to see Wash High make the jump to AAA for Boys Basketball.

I wonder what happens to Burgettstown, who makes a return to Class AA for football. Back to the Century Conference or the Interstate with Wash High, Waynesburg, etc.

  3. Does the WPIAL or PIAA make available the cutoff enrollment numbers for each classification?

  4. I've also talked with a couple people ho have heard the WPIAL wants schools to play in their classification.

I'm hearing Jeannette has no plans to drop and I hope Aliquippa stays up considering the Quips have been the best Class AA teams since they dropped from AAA.

  5. I'd sure like to see Avella get into the tri county south with schools closer to their size. Most of the schools in Sec 2 just dropped down from AA.They made huge strides this year and have some kids back.

  6. Jeanette and Aliquippa will both be in AA. I think the rumor of the WPIAL wanting teams in their own classifications came from the teams who want rid of Aliquippa and Jeanette.

  7. I heard South Park is going AAA in football.

  8. I checked the PIAA website (not thoroughly) and for football, South Park is AAA along with McGuffey...Yough and Mt Pleasant is AA now..

Basketball - Ringgold drops to AAA...Wash High is AAA too...Trinity and Ringgold have the top enrollments for AAA basketball meaning they just made the cutoff...South Park is AAA in hoops too..

  9. would anyone really want to see Aliquippa play OLSH, Union, and Neshannock? Honestly?

  10. In basketball the WPIAL ends up with roughly twice as many AA as A
teams. Teams staying down in A would help balance the number of teams in each classification and enable the sections in Class A to be more geographic. But, I can't see them forcing the power teams to stay in Class A.

  11. If South Park is playing AAA it would only be logical for them to play in the Big 7 as well as McGuffey. That could mean a long season for both teams. I could forsee BVA going to the Keystone Conference.

  12. Does the WPIAL or PIAA make available the cutoff enrollment numbers for each classification?

Sword, in Mike White's(Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) column he states that the PIAA decides the enrollment cutoff in increments of 125. In other words the largest 125 schools are AAAA, the next 125 are AAA etc....where ever those numbers fall that is the cutoff.

  13. Go to www.PIAA.com

the enrollment cutoffs for each classification are listed - as well as what class each school is in for basketball and football..
