As of right now it appears that each classification's playoffs will be very exciting. So many teams have GREAT records this season and it will be great to settle the debate over which teams are the best in each classification.
The competition should be intense, but it kind of stinks to be a local team this year since each classification is loaded. Most years, Peters, Trinity, and Carmichaels would be favorites to win their classification. However, to win it this year, it appears each of those teams will have to beat at least 1 monster team.
Having a better WPIAL tournament should prepare teams for the PIAA playoffs, don't you think?
I believe that it makes for a better team to play better competition.
I don't know about Peters, Wash High, Chartiers, etc but Trinity should have the pitching to go deep into the playoffs. They are very talented and fundamentally sound.
Shouldn't we be talking about CM baseball?
Whats wrong with you guys?
Mike,
I would hope that a stronger Wpial tourney would better prepare teams for the Piaa, but it may also have the opposite effect... With so many good teams in the Wpial, the eventual champions in each class may suffer from the Wpial title hangover for the Piaa. It is extremely difficult to win a prestigious title and then have to come back a couple days later and compete for an even more prestigious title.

Mike will only permit pro CM conversation. Running the high school desk at such a thriving metropolitan publication gives him the power to control this site.
Next stop on his career is the Webster, PA press.....
Anon,
We don't need your sarcasm. Mike Kovak does a great job at this newspaper and he has kept the blog as a way for the local enthusiasts to have a voice about high school sports. If you do not like it, then don't read the blog.
If you have comments about relevant topics, then please share as much as you can. Kovak-sarcasm is just a waste of space and it just destroys the blog momentum.
I wonder how all of these teams are going to be able to cram in a whole bunch of games in two days? I've already noticed that several double-headers were scheduled for today and I would imagine there will be more tomorrow and Thursday. The reality is that playoff berths will be affected by the way that games have to be played out in the next two days. Should be really interesting to see if pre-season favorites like Seton-LaSalle (which might have the best pitcher in the wpial) are left at home come playoff time.
It takes a big, big person to rip somebody anonymously on a blog, especially considering that person is probably hiding in his mother's basemen.
An interesting debate, a WPIAL vs STATE title. Last last year was great winning the WPIAL but losing to CM in the states still stings. With the high caliber of teams we have in the area, we should do well in both the WPIAL in States.
Looks like the pieces are falling into place for a certain former Canon-Mac coach to move onto his next job...

Or if that link doesn't work click the poster name
Pine-Richland is having a great season, so unless their coach resigns, I can't see them bringing in a new guy. Would be interesting to see who their top candidates are if it plays out.
Also, it looks like Trinity has basically won their section by virtue of West Mifflin losing twice yesterday. I don't think Trinity is "bye material" based on their overall profile versus the Blackhawks and Hopewells of the world. So that should set up AAA for at least one awesome 2nd round game. Could you imagine Trinity vs Blackhawk or Hopewell? Hell even Trinity vs Moon would be an awesome game. We'll see how O'Malley and his band of bracketologists seed the teams though.
Is that Bucci's relation?
CM lost tonight to Peter's so hopefully we will finally be finished with them since their flop of a season has mercifully come to an end. No more CM talk since there is nothing to talk about anymore.

Actually about 6'6" & 225lbs and it's the attic. Sorry Mr.Kovack, the truth hurts.
Why are you apologizing to me, anonymous attic-dwelling gigantor? I didn't write the comment you were replying to.
And Mr. KOVAK is my father. I prefer Dictator Kovak.
Good day.
Mike,
Its time to make everyone register to post, that will eliminate the morons and permit the rest of us to have an educated conversation without the ridiculous potshots at you anonymously.
how can you say that when you are always an anon...doesn't make any sense
I'll try to spell this out for you bigs as you appear to be a little "touched".
Yes, I posted anonymously because no specific user name is "required".
Yes, I would agree to post with a handle because I'm not afraid to post my whats on my mind.
Yes, I beleive that 90% of the stupid posts would disappear if a handle was required.
Yes, you are actually a strong indictment against my idea, in that your post is completely idiotic while posted with a handle.
My point is that if people want to attack others then they should have to do so while registering a handle with a valid, identifiable email address to the admins. If this is done, I assure you that the majority of the stupidity on here would go away.
Or, in your language, See Spot Run.
At least nobody is talking CM and Mr.Big Time Kovack you should remove the tator from your title.
Who is this Mr. Kovack?
I wonder if Frank Zebrasky will come back next year? The people in the community and on this blog have treated him so poorly all year that I could definitely see why he would not return. It really is a shame that very few people respect the great job that Frank did with the team this year! He nearly led a team with little talent to the postseason and he only started coaching days before the season began. He has proven that he is an excellent coach and I'm sure that if he does return next season that the Big Macs will be a force to be reckoned with!
If Coach Z decides not to return, there is only one person that could truly lead the Big Macs back to the promise land. Former pitching coach T-Mills. The two areas that hurt the Big Macs the most this year were pitching and defense and Mills understands these components better than anyone in the area. He has proven he can work with multiple types of pitchers. Guys like Toward, Hull, and Boris along with in-coming JV pitchers will benefit tremendously from Mills' tutelage.
Anon hatin on my man Bigs,
Not cool. Bigs contributes and puts an identity next to his contributions. You are virtually nothingness. A proverbial blackhole in the blogosphere. Bigs just pointed out the slight hypocrisy in your request and you turn around and chastise the lad. His post was not idiotic, it actually made perfect sense. You call for actions to be made by Emperor Kovak (i like that more than dictator), yet you fail to display the same characteristic that you want everyone here to have -- and identity. Get off of my man Bigs and lead by example and get an identity. Or, i guess you can lash out at him anonymously and say that you aren't afraid to post what's on your mind. Courageous your are.
Who is this Mr.Kovack?

LOL
That's pretty funny......
If it comes to it there are two names on the top of the wish list at C-M:
the previously mentioned t mills
and
former player Eric Lang
To the anon that thinks Trinity is not "bye material." I'm not quite sure what you have been looking at but let me break it down to you.
One is their overall record 16-3. Within the 16 are 3 AAAA wins.
Canon Mac at the time ranked #1.
Peters Twp Section Champ.
Erie McDowell this past weekend to give McDowell their 2nd loss.
And for you to say by virtue of West Mifflin losing Trinity is Section Champs. Trinity gave West Mifflin one of those losses that day. And I know what you are going to say, West Mifflin had to play two games that day. So did Trinity. In fact Trinity has played 6 games in 6 days and came out of it with a 5-1 record. West Mifflin 4 games in 5 days with a 1-3 record. Blackhawk had 3 games in 4 days with a 2-1 record. Nothing against those teams because they deserve to be in the playoff's but don't say Trinity got the section by virtue of anything.
The last thing I'm going to say is that Trinity has played one of, if not, the hardest schedule in AAA. That deserves consideration in the seeding and deserves a BYE!!!
Theres only going to be one bye team in AAA.. and it will most likely be Hopewell
