The Washington School Board reached into Greene County to find its next football coach.
Mike Bosnic, who has guided Carmichaels football program for the past six seasons, was hired at Wednesday night’s meeting.
Bosnic led the Mikes to a 35-25 record and had them in the WPIAL Class A playoffs in each of his six seasons.
The board presented Bosnic with a Wash High cap and shirt and he spoke for a few minutes.
Bosnic replaces Bill Britton, who had his position opened after in January following a 1-8 season. Britton, who was an assistant for 12 seasons under Guy Montecalvo before taking over in 2003.

mike will do a good job does anyone know if he will teach at washington
Who will coach Carmichaels? Any ideas?
Per the O-R:
"The board hired Bosnic as a special education, science certified teacher.
His teacher pay would be $46,775. His football coach salary would be $6,813."
I wouldnt be so enthusiastic about the Bosnic hire. He took a traditional Tri-County South first and second place team which usually was 8-1 or 7-2 and turned them into mediocre teams within 4 years finishing routinely with 5-4 records. Always made the playoffs but that is not a hard feat in that conference. He underachieved with a lot of talent down there.
Well, I for one, hope that he does well. The pride needs to come back to the "High". I hope Coach Bosnic is successful and brings some excitement to the football program. He is going to have to get involved in the community as well. He is going to need to get involved in the youth program as well. That is something that is lacking across the board in our district's athletics.
Rumor is, George Messich wants the Carmichaels job????
maybe those 5-4 teams were 2-7 teams i wish the best of luck to him and hope he is welcomed theres a lot of talent in the district he just got to pull it together.Hats off to the board it`s time 4 prexie pride to come back.............GOOD LUCK coach BOZ
Can anyone tell my why Pete Logan is still the Ringgold Boys Basketball Coach??? The man had a few lucky teams with players like George Lemon. That Brownsville team would have won without a coach.
Logan is terrible. Kids are quitting the team. No one shows up for practice. He still plays kids who never show up to practice. This guy is not building a program. He is just contributing to the downfall of the program.
Maybe the players are soft?
wash high fans dont get to exited.bosnic took a sucessful class A program ran it into the ground. his first year he coached he had 50 some kids out last year 20 some kids. he plays some kids for all the wrong reasons, some just because there seniors and some because there parents got there nose stuck up his a@@.hopefully the mikes will make a better choice this time.GOOD LUCK
You better like one of your assistants because at this late stage of the game that's about all you are gonna get. I find it hard to believe that Messich would leave Mapletown at this late date. He's about ready to retire anyhow and even though he would have at Carmichaels what he didn't have at Mapletown lately, I just don't see him leaving.
Just another parent whose superstar didn't get much playing time
Thank God,
The earth can start revolving again. "Worsh Hi" finally hired a football coach. Outside of the Washington School District, who else gives a rats patootie?
pete will get it going.it`s the kids who dont go to practice who quit.it`s easy to blame the coach when you think your child is the best and has no game.put your name in for coach if you can do better and remember its open gym not practice
I would take an assistant of their own over Bosnic at this rate. Not many people can get worse and take a good program and make it average that quickly. The next coach couldnt be worse from what I have heard.
once again wash high admin shows where they really are. there own study revealed a teaching staff that 2 often expects nothing and gets just what they expect. so what do they do hire a coach who may be a respectable coach but my guess is he has no clue about relating to the washington kids particularly those of color but i can hope against hope
We're talking about Washington here people. Not the inner city of Philly or New York.
I think the poster on here talking about not being able to relate to inner city youths is off base. Geez, go a mile in any direction out of Washington and its green country side.
Bosnic will do a good job there. No coach will and can't ever make everyone happy.
"but my guess is he has no clue about relating to the washington kids particularly those of color"
Duh, didn't Mr. Bosnic play at Pitt? I think they might have had a few people of color on that team. And didn't he go to high school at Laurel Highlands, which is in Uniontown, which has a racial makeup as close to the city of Washington as you're going to get? My guess is he won't be scared when he sees a person of color.
Remind me again of when Carmichaels was a successful Class A program.
Laurel Highlands is to Uniontown what Trinty is to Washington. They have a few minorities at LH, but the district is made up of townships surrounding Uniontown. Most of the students of color in the area attend Uniontown High. However, some posters are correct in that Washington is not Philly or NYC. The percentage of minority students in the Washington District is around 30%.
Weather or not Bosnic is successful will not depent on how he handles players of color, but on his ability to motivate and teach all the players.
Does it really matter what color the coach is? The only thing that matters is that he can turn the program around. As a coach he will have to handle both black and white players but we are all human beings. The players will need to respect him as the head coach and everything will be just fine. The more you guys/girls talk about him having race issues, the less likely the players are going to respect him. All of the negativity is nonsense! This guy has barely started and he has to deal with this crap! Let the players decide if they like playing for him or not. Don't plant the "negative seed" before they can form their own opinion.
Mike will do good at Washington. I've been around the program at Carmichaels my whole life. We have a pretty good tradition but there have been some down seasons. Mike took over the program when everyone close to program knew the talent was going to be down. He kept the playoff streak alive and he treated our kids good. Good Luck at Wash High Mike.
MARK WISE SHOULD BE COACHING!!!!!!!!
Carmichaels never was a playoff force but they were always a regular season force atleast, until Bosnic
Your right. regular season "farce"-1 playoff win in 30 years. Hopefully we can get Bentworth back on the schedule.
MARK WISE SHOULD BE COACHING
If that was the case he would have shown that in his interview. He had the same opportunity as any other person who interviewed. Actually, maybe more. Since he knew the system and the kids. Maybe he should lay down his pride and continue to help the new coach.
regular season force against geibel and west greene. what's the overall record with monessen since we are such a regular season force.
How about the so called adults let the players make their own opinions. Young adults are usually more honest than adults anyway. I don't know Bosnic but I do hope for the kids, school and team sake he turns out to be everything the ney sayers think he is not. My best to WHS. Isn't that what we all want, anyway.
Judging by this blog, and what I've heard around town, Bosnic has no chance to succeed at Wash High. Some boosters and parents seem to be out to get him already and the guy hasn't even coached a practice. I bet the team gets split down the middle. One half for Bosnic and the other half against him.
Thats just sad!
It is sad. That is why Wash High will never be successful again! The worst part about it is that Bosnic is behind the 8 ball already. Is that fair to him or the team? Not at all. I hear all of the crying about Bosnic and whether he can handle the "city" kids. That is a bunch of crap. The problem lies with the parents. They would cry no matter who the coach is. Who do they think would have been better suited for the job?
My hope is in Bosnic and his staff and the Wash High football team. They need to prove all the ney sayers wrong!!! Who cares what the community thinks. They need to come together as a team and want it for themselves.
To all of you who classify them as "CITY KIDS" for God's sake where are we?!!! The poster who said we are minutes away from farms and green pastures knows what they are talking about.
Our kids are good kids and they want to succeed as well, why don't we ask them what their goals are for the season instead of trying to guess for them, let them decide what the outcome will be, let them be in control of how they will make this a positive experience with the new coaches. I always tell my kids if you don't do it for anybody else do it for yourself, make it happen for you and stay positive for your team mates if not anybody else. It's all about the kids here community, We asked that you be positive for all involved and keep the negativity to yourselves. Mark Wise would have been a good pick but unfortunately we had no say so.
Exactly what experience does Mark Wise have that some of you think he should have been chosen?
The kids said he was very knowledgable and the things he showed them made sense it the scheme of things.
These kids nowadays have learned so much believe it not from playing Madden, they have a fresh insight and learn alot from those games, so they know when Coaches tell them to execute a play, they usually will know if it will work or not, it's not like the old days when they only knew what they were taught, they are also very well rounded as student athletes
There is a lot more to being a head coach than schemes. Knowing who to pat on the back and who to kick in the butt for one. The administrative duties are ridiculous, things like paperwork, media, grade checks, parent notifications, practice organization, game plans, off season programs and strength training. Maybe Coach Wise didn't fill the board with confidence that he could handle these things also. There are a lot of excellent football coaches who are better off being assistants. I am not saying this is definately true but maybe that is the reason he was passed over.
I've coached with Mike, and he is a great guy, and a super coach. He was always fair and well respected by the kids and the people he worked with. We hate to lose him at Carmichaels, but wish him luck at Wash High. I think Wash High got a great coach who will work hard for the kids! Parents will always complain, but true judgement is rendered by those you work with. Good luck Mike...we wish you the best!
Discipline and Respect will be the key. WHS has a wealth of talent. Good luck, Coach Bosnic and his staff.
Is there any chance former coach John Menhart returns as head coach for the Mikes?
