Separated at birth

One thing is certain about the latest edition of the Varsity Letters' Separated at Birth, the local entrant has a much higher win percentage as a baseball coach than the other person has as an acting owner.

Here's Peters Township baseball coach Joe Maize, winning coach of the last two WPIAL Class AAAA baseball championship teams, and former Pirates owner Kevin McClatchy.

  2. Joe Maize has always resembled Will Ferrell to me. Obviously you'd have to see a picture of Ferrell with glasses on, but I think Joe Maize could pass for his dad.

I think the next celebrity look-a-like should be Ed Dechellis (PSU basketball coach) and Jordan Abromovitch (former Canon-Mac baseball assistant). I'd be willing to bet that they are related as the resemblance is uncanny.

  3. I guess I can see the Will Ferrell in Joe Maize. I also think Maize sort of looks like Bethel Park coach Jim Rider. They both carry themselves the same way, have glasses, and dress real proper.

I think the next look-a-like should be Rudy Pokorny (Peters baseball assistant) and Pete Vukuvich when he played the big slugger for the Yankees in the movie Major League.

  4. Can we get some love for Phil Staab looking like Jim Carrey's character of Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber?

  5. Jordan Jankowski and George Muresan (former NBA player) are easily mistakable for twins.

You will probably delete this but you shouldn't.

While most are doing the look-a-like thing I caught your cheapshot(acting owner) at Kevin McClatchy. Say what you want about him and I am NOT defending his won-loss record as THE OWNER of the Pittsburgh Pirates but you cannot dispute the fact that he SAVED major league basseball in Pittsburgh and built the best stadium in the league. Do not forget that before he stepped in to buy the Pirates with his group of investors the only other potential buyer is now in jail for embezzlement. While it is easy and correct to criticize him for some of the decisions he made in the hiring of GM's, to insult him with the cheap-shot of "acting owner" is classless and undeserving. The next time you enter PNC Park either as a paying customer or free-loading member of the media remember you are there BECAUSE of Kevin McClatchy. I prefer to not kick a man when he is down so I will just say....Thanks Kevin.

  15. Ya, cause Kevin paid for PNC Park... Right... I've paid just as much as he has for that stadium.

If you're going to build a beautiful garden, you might as well put some nice flowers in it...

  16. Without Kevin, there is no garden and all we are left with are the Federation League Wild Things. Complain all you want without McClatchy there is no MLB in Pittsburgh....that is FACT and cannot be argued.

A little history lesson.Go back to when the Galbraith sold the team, nobody wanted it so then Mayor Caliguiri put together a group of business people and the city of Pittsburgh took control, they then after several years put the team up for sale and the Coudersport Crook & Kevin McClatchy and his group were all that stepped forward. Without him you'd have crack houses and rats where PNC Park now sits and the team would be the Carolina or Virginia Pirates.

Remember the Steelers were losers for more than 40 years until the Emporer Chas Noll came in as coach.

  17. actually your fact is incorrect and CAN be argued. it was mayor murphy, and his love for baseball, that kept the pirates in pittsburgh.

  18. When did Mayor Murphy buy the team? He put it up for sale so McClatchy could buy it. So it is fact that McClatchy saved MLB in Pittsburgh.

  19. its also fact that your a moron and your arguing a point that nobody cares about
