Washington boys basketball failed to qualify for the WPIAL playoffs came during the 1994-95 season when the Prexies finished fifth in Section 5-AA/SA with a 6-8 section record. Wash High, coached by legendary Ron Faust, was 8-14 overall.
Burgettstown won the second, while Bentworth and Chartiers-Houston were the postseason qualifiers.
With Trinity's 67-47 win over Ringgold Wednesday night in Section 5-AAA, Washington was eliminated from playoff contention. The Prexies are 10-10 overall and 4-7 in section play with games remaining Friday against Trinity and Monday against north Catholic. Both games are at Wash High.
Washington had made the playoffs 15 consecutive seasons. The Prexies, who had competed at Class AA for years, moved up to Class AAA this season.

ReplyDeleteWash Hi went to the playoffs 15 straight years, who are some of the other local teams that have long consecutine playoff streaks?
Not a good time for a young team to move up to AAA - let alone the toughest AAA section like Coach Dunn was quoted in todays article. Although it sounds like they will be one of the favorites in this section next year with the bulk of their offense returning? Mike people are saying that Wash High will be back down in AA the next cycle. Is this true & when/how does this happen?
ReplyDeleteMonessen has the WPIAL record for consecutive appearances. I'll have to check the record. Off the top of my head, the Greyhounds are on 29 0r 30 straight.
ReplyDeleteAs for the next cycle, I have no ability to predict enrollment numbers but would be stunned if Wash High remained in Class AAA.
Monessen has qualified for the 2010-11 playoffs, which runs the streak to 30.
ReplyDeletePeters isn't in this year - it seems like they had a good run?
ReplyDeleteSo instead of writing about Monessen having 30 consecutive playoff seasons, you choose to write about Wash High not making it in 15 years? Either way, at least it is not about South Fayette!
ReplyDeleteLike Wash High, PT played a lot of underclassmen this year. I think it's premature to say the Indians won't be back next year.
ReplyDeleteWith the playoffs staring next week the district has 9 teams that have qualified for the playoffs. of the 9 teams only South Fayette, monesson(not sure if they are considered in the district)and burgettstown have any type of win streak ( at least 4 wins in a row) going into the playoffs I think it could mean an early exit for most of the district teams. what do you think?
ReplyDeleteGood point anon and something we were talking about in the office before Friday's games.
ReplyDeleteSouth Fayette looks primed for a long run. Monessen is also capable of a lengthy postseason. After that, we'll see. I think it depends on the point totals of some of the top individual players. If Josh Valentic puts up 45 in a first-round game, Trinity has a great chance of winning.
WASH HIGHS TEAM IS YOUNG AND ATHLETIC BUT THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE A TRUE SCORER.... THAT'S SOMETHING WASH HIGH USUALLY HAS...THEY COULD NOT FINISH OUT A LOT OF GAMES THIS YEAR.... TRINITIY WILL GO AS FAR AS VALENTIC CAN TAKE THEM...HE CAN SHOOT GOOD FOR A KID....15 STRAIGHT SEASONS OF PLAYOFFS IS A VERY GOOD ACCOMPLISHMENT... THANK COACH FAUST FOR THAT....MONESSENS STREAK IS GOOD AND AS LONG AS THEY KEEP IN SINGLE A. THEY SHOULD KEEP MAKING PLAYOFFS....SOUTH FAYETTE WILL NOT WIN IT ALL IN AAA!!!! KOVAK KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
ReplyDeleteThanks but please lay off the caps lock button next time.
ReplyDeleteHey Mr.ALL CAPS, Monessen plays up in AA..
ReplyDeleteMan, someone pays you a compliment for once and you still take them to task. Way to keep your audience happy, Kovach.
ReplyDeleteMonessen plays up but the competition is still lousy. No wonder they make the playoffs every year.

ReplyDeleteHave you even seen Monessen play this year? They are very good and very deep and the section they are in is actually one of the stronger AA sections. Take a look at their non conference schedule, which is one of the strongest in AA. Their only two losses are to AAAA schools. What's the problem, do the Hounds consistenly beat your school, or are you just one of those people that have to make negative comments on something you know absolutely nothing about.
